Trying to boot from a usb stick In win 10 I get the message "Verifying shim SBAT data failed: Security Policy ViolationSomething has gone seriously wrong: SBAT self-check failed: Security Policy Violation" Can someone help me resolve it? Is this from the latest windows update?

This seems to have started right after a win update but I'm not sure if it's a coincident or not. Thanks for any help

    Hi Dave,

    I tried. I turned off Secure Boot and then I could turn on the computer normally. But I turned on Secure Boot again and the computer still couldn't turn on. I had the problem of Verifying shim SBAT

    I met the same situation. The following operation helped (refering https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/715200348):

    1. turn off the Secure Boot again and entered the ubuntu system.
    2. deleted the SBAT policy by command "sudo mokutil --set-sbat-policy delete"
    3. restarted ubuntu (so that sbat policy could be updated)
    4. restart again and entry BIOS, enable the Secure Boot

    If you have access to the recovery system, try to go in the BIOS/UEFI settings and disable Secure Boot, it'll normally bypass the verification so the problem don't hold anymore (but it's unsecure).
    If that don't work but you've access to Windows, then you can uninstall the update and wait for the next that will hopefully fix the issue.
    If you can't access to Windows, then try to make a bootable usb key to avoid the verifications.

    Hi Thanks for the reply. I faced the same problem as I use dual boot on my HP Envy laptop.

    My system wouldn't boot at all, throwing this error and shutdown.

    I had to go to BIOS boot options and disable Secure Boot. This allowed me to get boot menu.

    Windows boot has been successful. What does this registry key imply? Thanks.

    still i am not getting option for choosing windows or linux,

    Felipe, I tried Dave's suggestions but I just went and took the security off in the bios. This works for me.
