News and Interests Showing Up and Running In Task Manager

Hello,

I was checking my Task Manager today after installing Cumulative Update KB5043131 on my HP OMEN Desktop and my wife's HP Envy laptop and noticed a task called News and Interests running (see image below). We are running Win10 22H2 Build 19045.4957 . I have not noticed this before running in my Task Manager. I have News and Interests turned off in my Task Bar Settings and I do not see it but why is it all of a sudden showing up in my Task Manager. I have tried to use End Task for this but it keeps coming back after I end it. I use FireFox as my default browser and I have no interest in using this News and Interest junk now or ever. Could someone please tell me why it is there now and how I can get rid of this running in my Task Manager? I have also sent in feedback to MS Edge since I see Edge WebView2 and also to MS FeedBack Hub. Thank you.

Microsoft appears to have released a bug fix.

My MS Edge WebView2 Runtime (msedgewebview2.exe) updated to v130.0.2849.56 on 28-Oct-2029 and after a re-boot the News and Interests process no longer appears in my Task Manager. From Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features on my Win 10 Pro v22H2 machine:

Thanks for the information. I'm waiting for the next few days to reinstall the Webviews2 App from the official Microsoft website to see if it installs version v130.0.2849.56 and not v130.0.2849.52.

Last hour: Windows 11 automatically installed the v130.0.2849.56 version of Webviews 2 and now everything is back to normal on Windows 11 23H2 too.

    It runs as soon as you stop it :-(. I was able to stop it for a few hours last night, after uninstalling Copilot and hiding news in Skype.

    I have filed several bug reports using the MS Edge Feedback extension at the top of the Edge browser and I just filed another one for an update on getting rid of this mess. The is an Edge and Edge Webview2 problem. I just uninstalled the bloatware and spyware CoPilot from my Win10 computer and I already have had Skype uninstalled since MS took it over. This News and Interests gives me Event 10010 errors DCOM errors on restart of my computer

    "Microsoft.Windows.Search_1.14.17.19041_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewy!ShellFeedsUI did not register with DCOM within the required timeout" and if I do not kill that News and Interests task before I restart or shutdown my computer several of my Apps will not close properly and I have to wait for Windows to close them. Please file a bug report with the Edge Team if you have not done so and include any screenshots or files with it. No matter what anyone tells you on how to get rid of that task it will come back and the DEVS are the only ones to fix it. I have tried everything from doing to registry to making a new Win10 account and nothing works. Good luck and if I hear of anything I will post it here.

    I've tried everything to kill this process but nothing seems to help. The update that started this will not let me uninstall it. It uses a small amount of memory till you hover over the taskbar and then it shoots up to 95 mb. As a gamer I don't need extra processes running in the background. You would think that by choosing to turn it off in the taskbar, it would end the process but it's forced on us.

    After the KB5043064 and KB5043131 cumulative updates were installed, when I shut down my PC it shows me an error, something about Task Manager, and every time I shut it down, I get this error, so once I uninstalled both updates, everything went back to normal. I won't install any cumulative update ever.

    It's like they are trying to push us to use Windows 11.
