"Not Implemented" when clicking on photos in Windows Explorer

I've been having this issue since shortly before installing the latest Windows Update last week. Any time I click on a photo within Windows Explorer, a message pops up that simply lists the file path and says "Not Implemented".

This started happening before I installed the update, and it was only upon restarting my computer to solve the issue that the update was installed (I tend to procrastinate updates).

The issue appears to be caused by Explorer. Downloading any random image with my Chrome browser and opening the image from the downloads list successfully opens the image, as does viewing images from within the Photos app itself.

Restarting Explorer from task manager fixes the issue temporarily, but it has always reoccurred after some time. So that's not a permanent fix and having to restart Explorer at least once a day is not ideal. I'm more just worried that this could be the precursor to or symptom of something much more serious. I've never had this problem before, and most issues like this are resolved with a full restart.

I don't know what to do.

    I too have had this annoying message consistantly for a week, this time

    I normally set JPG and PNG to default app Photos, and after next reboot it magically disappears.

    A question?

    Has any on tried uninstalling PHOTOSand REinstall?

    • Using different versions of photos [if they exist]

    I might give it a go later.

    Tried copying to Desktop - and of course worked.

    Sort of points to "Photos" being flakey

    • On my personal Won1o Pro laptop,
    • I have full ownership on my account to avoid defaut admin

    btw: "Not implimented" would seem to say "haven't got that >> Function, Priv, Permission, ability ?? or even MS want you off Win 10 :)

    See Diane Henriks thread, dated 03 November 2024 and updated on 05 November. // It worked for me after a restart. Let's see if it is long lasting..

    I tried to search for Diane's reply, to be a bit more helpful. It is on page 2 of the "Not Implemented" thread... There a couple of screen shots there. Quoting her response: "UPDATE 11/5/24: Found the issue, I think. The update just messed up the settings and removed it as the default app, leaving no app set. You need to read Photos as the default. See screenshots..."

    I followed this suggestion. When I set the default app to Microsoft Photos I ended up with the same problem. I then set the default to Microsoft Paint and it worked.

    What a bunch of ****.... Fix the God Damn updates.... I have gone in and uninstalled the **** things and then everything works fine.... Get the libraries straight....
