That fixed the problem for a while, then it just came right back after a week or so.

I've been having this issue since shortly before installing the latest Windows Update last week. Any time I click on a photo within Windows Explorer, a message pops up that simply lists the file path and says "Not Implemented".
This started happening before I installed the update, and it was only upon restarting my computer to solve the issue that the update was installed (I tend to procrastinate updates).
The issue appears to be caused by Explorer. Downloading any random image with my Chrome browser and opening the image from the downloads list successfully opens the image, as does viewing images from within the Photos app itself.
Restarting Explorer from task manager fixes the issue temporarily, but it has always reoccurred after some time. So that's not a permanent fix and having to restart Explorer at least once a day is not ideal. I'm more just worried that this could be the precursor to or symptom of something much more serious. I've never had this problem before, and most issues like this are resolved with a full restart.
I don't know what to do.

2024-11-30T09:50:56+00:00 So I've been wondering why I couldn't open my jpeg and png photos, hence started looking around and ended up here. My TIFF images were opening in Windows Photo Viewer, but I couldn't find a way to set that as a default for other photo image types, which is weird as clearly the app resides somewhere on my laptop or how would TIFFs access it. Until now, the only fix was to reboot my laptop, but as others reported that only work for a short period. When working on astrophotraphy projects which can take several hours to process, during which I need to open images to monitor progress, this became unworkable. I too have now downloaded the Photos Legacy app and set that as my default for all images, which means that TIFFs now also open there. I hope this continues to work, but it would be so much better if MS stopped breaking things when they roll out updates.

The 'open with'... workaround works but is tedious.
People are even doing the hacks to re-enable the really old windows photo viewer because the current photo viewer is just broken.
Photos Legacy works no problem, less hacking.

This seems to be such a common problem with all the same issues that it is not unique to just a few machines and has to be a systemic problem with the operating system caused by an update. I have thousands of valuable pictures that are at risk if this is not resolved by Microsoft in an update.
