Update to win 11 22h2 always fails

Hello everyone,

I'm having issues with Windows 11 update and can't complete the update by any means. The system is prompting me with two updates for

Windows 11, version 22H2
2024-10 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for x64-based Windows 11, version 22H2 (KB5044033)

The former goes through a long download and reboot each time, and ends up with the error code “Installation Error - 0xc1900101”.

The latter fails to install within a few minutes with “Installation Error - 0x80070057”.

My computer configuration

CPU:14900K
GPU:AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX(24GB)
Memory:Corsair Memory 192 GB DDR5 4000MHz(48GB×4)
SSD: SOLIDIGM SSD 2T
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 AERO G

All of my hardware drivers as well as the motherboard's BIOS version have been updated to the latest version and I have not installed any third party antivirus software, I have been trying for three months now and have not had a single success installing the update, the system version is now stuck on version number 22621.4391, I have tried almost every troubleshooting step I can find and none of them have solved the problem.

Here's what I've tried so far:

Upgraded in-place using the installer, but the update problem persists.
Windows Update Troubleshooter: ran the troubleshooter, but the update issue persists.
Went to the motherboard manufacturer's official website to download all the official versions of the drivers and override the installation, but the update issue still exists.
Go to the Microsoft® Update Catalog website to download the corresponding version of the patch package, but the installation still fails.
Using the ISO file to install with personal applications and data preserved prompts The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation
Disable Defender and perform a strict clean boot while staying offline, but the update issue persists.
Running the System File Checker (sfc /scannow) from a command prompt, restarting services, deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder, using DISM to repair Windows Update corruption, etc., but the update problem persists.
Running on a single memory stick, removing the graphics card, connecting to a single monitor using only the core graphics, removing all peripheral USB devices, and keeping only the necessary mouse and keyboard connections, but the update problem persists.

1. The wusa command-line is correct. Please double-click the command to ensure the spaces are correct. "wusa /uninstall /kb:5034467"
2. The earlier fix.reg will not fix this error. Please re-download the updated fix.reg from the link I posted earlier and run it. Click Yes to confirm.

Hi Ramesh.

Sorry it might be a problem with my operation, this time entering the command to uninstall the update popped up the uninstall screen, but the system prompted:

Windows Update Standalone Installer

Update KB5034467 was not installed on this computer.

I then tried to re-download the updated fix.reg from the link you posted earlier and run it, also unsuccessfully, with the message:

Unable to import D:\Downloads\fix.reg: Error accessing registry.

The Components hive must be loaded before running the REG file. Please run:

reg load HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\Config\COMPONENTS

Then, import fix.reg.

Hi Ramesh.

Oh my goodness, this is working! I installed KB5044033 successfully! My God, I felt relieved at this moment even though I hadn't slept for over 24 hours! Thank you so much Ramesh, you are like an angel who can do anything! Can I go directly to System Settings and get the latest Windows 11, version 23H2 update next? Or can I try the ISO file again? Honestly this makes me nervous, not knowing if I'll be able to successfully update.

Awesome. I'm glad to hear it's resolved. Your system already has 23H2, which you can continue using until 24H2 is offered via Windows Update.

However, we have yet to crack the 0xc1900101 error code. It's most likely caused by a third-party driver. We left the following drivers intact because they're up to date.

If you wish to upgrade to 24H2 right away, we can try eliminating the above drivers and try again. But I'd suggest waiting for a month or so before upgrading.
