Update to win 11 22h2 always fails

Hello everyone,

I'm having issues with Windows 11 update and can't complete the update by any means. The system is prompting me with two updates for

  • Windows 11, version 22H2
  • 2024-10 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for x64-based Windows 11, version 22H2 (KB5044033)

The former goes through a long download and reboot each time, and ends up with the error code “Installation Error - 0xc1900101”.

The latter fails to install within a few minutes with “Installation Error - 0x80070057”.

My computer configuration

  • CPU:14900K
  • GPU:AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX(24GB)
  • Memory:Corsair Memory 192 GB DDR5 4000MHz(48GB×4)
  • SSD: SOLIDIGM SSD 2T
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte Z790 AERO G

All of my hardware drivers as well as the motherboard's BIOS version have been updated to the latest version and I have not installed any third party antivirus software, I have been trying for three months now and have not had a single success installing the update, the system version is now stuck on version number 22621.4391, I have tried almost every troubleshooting step I can find and none of them have solved the problem.

Here's what I've tried so far:

  1. Upgraded in-place using the installer, but the update problem persists.
  2. Windows Update Troubleshooter: ran the troubleshooter, but the update issue persists.
  3. Went to the motherboard manufacturer's official website to download all the official versions of the drivers and override the installation, but the update issue still exists.
  4. Go to the Microsoft® Update Catalog website to download the corresponding version of the patch package, but the installation still fails.
  5. Using the ISO file to install with personal applications and data preserved prompts The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation
  6. Disable Defender and perform a strict clean boot while staying offline, but the update issue persists.
  7. Running the System File Checker (sfc /scannow) from a command prompt, restarting services, deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder, using DISM to repair Windows Update corruption, etc., but the update problem persists.
  8. Running on a single memory stick, removing the graphics card, connecting to a single monitor using only the core graphics, removing all peripheral USB devices, and keeping only the necessary mouse and keyboard connections, but the update problem persists.

    Unfortunately, the offline installer failed to install as usual as well.

    The script ran correctly. Please try to install the latest .NET Framework update using the offline installer:

    Hi Ramesh.

    Thank you for your suggestion, I ran SFCFix.exe strictly according to your steps, however I didn't see the prompt you mentioned in point 4, SFCFix.exe finished running very quickly and generated the SFCFix.txt file, I thought it was due to my mistake that the prompt you mentioned didn't appear, so I repeated running SFCFix.exe twice. I hope I didn't cause you any trouble.

    I uploaded the first generated SFCFix.txt, the link is here, and the DISM command was successfully executed without error code.

    92 Manifests are missing from the computer. Let's try to fix the corruption. We can fix this using a third-party tool named SFCFix.exe (written by an MVP).

    1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro of Sysnative forums) and save this to your Desktop.

    Hi Ramesh.

    Good to see you back, I first installed the enablement package as you suggested and now my OS version is 22631.4391 with version number 23H2 which seems to be a good sign!

    After I run DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /RESTOREHEALTH I get the error code.

    The source files could not be found.

    Use the “Source” option to specify the location of the files that are required to restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location For more information on specifying a source location , see http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077.

    The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

    I uploaded both the dism.log and the latest CBS logs, hopefully they will come in handy, here is the link.
