Why has microsoft copilot installed itself on my windows 10 pc?

I did not ask for this feature, I didn't even intentionally update my pc and while I am glad that I seem to have successfully uninstalled it, I am infuriated that it was installed without my knowledge nor consent. Generative AI is technology I personally believe to be genuinely evil and not something I would interact with willingly under any circumstances. Knowing that this feature is irremovable in win11 is the final excuse I need never to install it. If any Microsoft exec cares please burn down all of your AI infrastructure and reassign all those staff, it is a waste of money, talent, time and human energy. Please do not re-install Copilot in the next update, please.

Be worried when you are using it to search and all of a sudden you see all the information about you computer and the paths along with folder contents streaming on by in the co-pilot side panel. I thought I was going crazy. I tried to close out co-pilot and it wouldn't. Weird part was when I asked co-pilot WHY it downloaded my pc information. It responded "have a nice day!" Then crashed. I reset my system after that and even though I delete co-pilot it keeps returning.

I would like to explain: Microsoft did not decide to install Copilot as a separate application on your computer.

As you are probably aware, Windows is continually updated. This is how Windows evolves over time. The updates are not additions to Windows, they are Windows.

The Windows operating system now includes artificial intelligence, of which Copilot is a visible example. As Windows continues to evolve through updates, we will see more artificial intelligence on our computers, which means, among other things, more of Copilot.

I want to be very clear about this: Even though it's on our computers as part of Windows, nobody is required to use Copilot, just as nobody is required to use Microsoft Edge or Windows Media Player or Windows Fax and Scan or the OneDrive app, etc. ... just because it's there doesn't mean we're supposed to use it. I myself don't use any of those things. Since I'm not using them, they aren't doing anything. Nevertheless, they remain part of the operating system, for the people who do want to use them, and for software developers who use them in their apps.

And all those unneeded apps take up much needed room! Especially on laptops that have very small drives. I made the mistake in updating to Windows 11. With both of the healthy disk segments and regular C where the OS resides I have less than 60 GB of 119 GB (estimations). So essentially my laptop is junk since I added WIN 11 OS. I will eventually install Linux on it.

Following up with my own experiences over the last three months since I deinstalled Edge, Copilot, OneDrive and some other unwanted intrusive MS-****. (Now I'm not saying that these are not great bits of software for those who want to use them. But I don't).

I think it was disabling the EdgeUpdate stuff that cured my new computer. Anyway none of these superfluous bits of software are present on my computer since November. The only "annoyance" is the Windows Taskbar search. It is addicted to Edge and anytime I use it for a search it offers to install Edge. At which point I remember my foolishness and cut and paste to a browser of choice.

I guess MS doesn't read these boards because there is no notion of any change on their side. I recall that MS got a heavy fine from the EU for pushing Internet Explorer and I hope there is another in works for Edge, Copilot and OneDrive. The circumstances seem very similar.

It absolutely installs itself without asking still.

This is completely disgusting. Thanks for making me waste my morining getting rid of something I never asked for. Keep taking my money and trying to shove **** down my throat.
