Cannot update to 24H2 because of partition error

Hello, I really need help with performing the update to Windows 11 24H2 update.

I have tried to search for update in Windows Update multiple times, and yet it keepts telling me I'm on the latest update. There are nothing in the optional section either. This is despite the fact my build version is 21H2, which is very old now.

I have tried downloading the Windows Update Assistant, but that was to no avail because every time it keepts telling me "we couldn't update the system reserved partition". I have 95 free gbs on my OS:C and so I have no idea what is causing this. I tried deleting temporary files, using the CMD and create a Y drive then deleting fonts through it, labelling the product file to .old and even tried a set of command to restart registries. The Update Assistant or the ISO version, both returned with the same message.

I have grown quite desperate now since I realized Windows never even offered to update me to 22H2 and 23H2. All the tutorials on Youtube all pointed to the MS guide to deleting the fonts. I ran out of options, and I can't contact any agents because the system keep telling me my account was logged in too many times.

    It worked! Thank you so much! Do you think I will need to increase the partition size in the future? And if yes, is it better to wait for the recommended work-around or can we get ahead of this by resizing partitions when convenient for us rather than when Microsoft pushes out an update that will not work? Thank you again! Bonnie

    Whenever a feature update or a quality update fails due to an overloaded EFI partition, you can use the above workaround. To avoid this issue permanently, you can extend the EFI boot partition using third-party tools such as NUIBI or MiniTool.

    I'm having the same problem but with a Dell computer. Windows 11 Version 24H2 Install error 0xc1900201. Dell-XPS-8930, Windows 11 Pro, OS Build 22631.4602. I have always had problems with the BIOS updates associated with this machine & I see you recommending BIOS-related suggestions. I have not yet tried the "deleting fonts" steps. Please let me know if I need to do that first.

    In your case, deleting the fonts should help. Run these commands from admin Command Prompt:

    • mountvol Y: /s
    • cd /d Y:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\Fonts
    • del *.ttf

    That should do the trick.

    I was getting the same error. deleted the fonts and the problem was fixed. :) I knew the problem was not caused by my computer. It is necessary to intervene more quickly in such update errors. working our time...

    This answer is a definite solution, but still no action has been taken in the update...

    Dear Ramesh,

    I have the same problem. Tried to enlarge the partition but there's another one in between the unallocated space I made from the main one and I cannot move that 1GB to the EFI partition. So I've seen your great responses and solutions to this probem. Could you help me with this if I post my dir.txt file and you give me instructions to clear up the space or whatever I have to do. I would really appreciate your professional help!
