Windows 11 OEM licence deactivated after 24h2 update

Hello,

A few days ago I installed the new 24h2 update on my laptop and after rebooting the system, my Windows 11 Home license no longer worked. Every time I went to the Configuration place where the licenses are activated, it would show an error 0xC004F213. Every time I would click on "Solve problems" it would not provide me with any solution.

After 1 day, I tried to enter my license as a new license, by clicking on "Change product key" and pasted my current license. Again, this would not solve the problem and throw me an error. This time the code was 0x803fa067.

Now, I constantly have that error saying that my license is not valid. https://answers-afd.microsoft.com/static/images/image-not-found.jpgI have checked and downgrading to the previous version 23h also seems impossible.

Is there any fix for this or am I going to lose my valid and paid license due to an update bug?

I corresponded with Puget Systems, who built my computer. Following their instructions, I was able to resolve this in two steps.

    1. Install 24H2, and see that Windows has been de-activated.
    2. On the activation page, click on "Change Product Key" and put in the OEM Activation code (found on the Microsoft authentication sticker on the back of my unit)

BTW, Puget says technically this is a result not of 24H2, but rather this October update: KB 5044285; That KB was an optional update which had never been installed, and was included as a "catch-up" update as part of the 24H2 package update.

Would this be the OEM key? I believe my key was Windows 10 Pro, which was updated to 11 Pro.

Would installing that KB beforehand resolve?

We are seeing the same issue with our enterprise licences when upgrading from 22h2 to 24h2 using windows update for business within intune if we put the enterprise Mac key in again it will re licence, however this is not a solution when we are on the cusp of upgrading 2000+ devices in the next 3 months

is there any solution as of yet

    So I tried again tonight..

Prior to updating 23H2 activation status simply said "Windows is activated"..

After the update to 24H2, the install was de-activated again.

I clicked on "Change Product Key" and input the SAME key that was used on the 23H2 version.

It then went through the motions, and successfully activated! The message now says it's activated with a digital license that's linked to my MS account.

So the trick to solving this is to "Change Product Key" and input the SAME key that was already being used before updating to 24H2.

The update snuck past me and installed itself again about a week ago. This time when I used 'change product key' and entered the original product key again, it was accepted and Windows is activated again. Something must have changed, because this is the SAME product key that the PC has always had, and the SAME product key that I also tried entering before I had to roll back the installation last time. I just hope that this doesn't keep happening on the other PCs because hunting down OE product keys is not always easy.
