Windows 11 OEM licence deactivated after 24h2 update

Hello,

A few days ago I installed the new 24h2 update on my laptop and after rebooting the system, my Windows 11 Home license no longer worked. Every time I went to the Configuration place where the licenses are activated, it would show an error 0xC004F213. Every time I would click on "Solve problems" it would not provide me with any solution.

After 1 day, I tried to enter my license as a new license, by clicking on "Change product key" and pasted my current license. Again, this would not solve the problem and throw me an error. This time the code was 0x803fa067.

Now, I constantly have that error saying that my license is not valid. https://answers-afd.microsoft.com/static/images/image-not-found.jpgI have checked and downgrading to the previous version 23h also seems impossible.

Is there any fix for this or am I going to lose my valid and paid license due to an update bug?

Hi I have the same problem. I finally installed 24H2 and it promptly deactivated my licence key. As the screenshots show, I have been happily using my Window 11 since early 2024 when 23H2 was installed.

On 26/1/2025, 24H2 was installed, and the 'original install date' was reset to 26/1/2025 and my product key was lost. Troubleshooter doesn't work. I've put in a service ticket and requested callback. I have no idea if MS will call back.

Yes this is similar to the problem I have., except the error code is differnt. No response yet from anyone at Microsoft. Even though my machine was purchased with oem windows 11 pro it's telling me the key is for Windows Home, but it was already registered as Windows 11 Pro on my MS account.

I'm not sure why Microsoft have broken their licencing. As per my other message, since there is only 30 days to activate before it will no longer work, this is a time bound Denial of Service attack by them on their customers. Interesting they haven't responded to this comment yet.

I went and dug out Microsof support's previous reply from October, this was their advice to fix if you want to try but to me it is a really, really poor solution to drop on customers. I have not tried it yet as struggling for time.

    For 11:- Download Windows 11

    1. Click on Download tool now (media creation tool)
    2. Launch the MCT app from downloads
    3. Select Language, edition and bit architecture
    4. You'll get 2 options, Upgrade this PC orCreate installation Media
    5. Select Create installation media and click next
    6. You'll get 2 options, USB Flash Driveor ISO File
    7. Select USB Flash Driveif you want to create a bootable pen-drive.
    8. Select ISO FILE if you want to download the ISO Setup.
    9. Select the location path for ISO File downloading.
    10. Select Start

    1. In-place /Repair:-

Either repair any bugs in the windows or upgrade it to the latest version

    No data loss

    1. Go to downloads
    2. Open ISO Folder and launch "setup"
    3. Accept Terms and Conditions.
    4. Choose how to download update (Either Now or Not right Now)
    5. Select edition and click Next.
    6. Choose what to keep (Either keep all data or Keep all apps and data).
    7. Click on Next and start the installation.

I am having the same problem AGAIN as well, the same issue occurred in Oct 24 when this update was released. I contacted support and was given a bunch of steps to fix but I had neither the time nor inclination to follow them so rolled back. Now it has been auto rolled out I have the exact same problem and it is not even listed on the known issues which I have to say I find utterly astounding. There seems to be no way now to get to a live chat with Microsoft to try to resolve the issue.

I have a legally purchased laptop with a legally purchased oem licence. Why are Microsoft introducing a time bound Denial of Service Attack on their customers. This is not what should be expected.

Please can the Microsoft CISO explain why this attack has happened and when a proper update will be supplied through the update mechanism and before the 30 days activation time out.

Customers should not be expected to follow instructions that may or may not work or purchase duplicate licences.

A rapid response from Microsoft would be very much appreciated as the level of irritation and inconvenience to many users is very clear.
