"Show taskbar buttons on: All Taskbars" setting keeps resetting on sleep

I have 2 monitors, and I want to keep my full taskbar persistently-visible on both of them. This was working fine until about a week ago. Now, it behaves as though "Main taskbar and taskbar where window is open" is selected even though "All taskbars" is still selected, until I toggle the setting myself.

My workaround is manually setting it to "Main taskbar and taskbar where window is open," then back to "All taskbars." This fixes the issue until the next time my PC sleeps.

I have tried resetting my PC and I have tried SFC /scannow as an admin in case of settings file corruption. Neither have resolved the issue.

Taskbar Settings

Lock the taskbar | ON

Automatically hide the taskbar in desktop mode | OFF

Automatically hide the taskbar in tablet mode | OFF

Use small taskbar buttons | OFF

Use Peek to preview the desktop when you move your mouse to the Show desktop button at the end of the taskbar | OFF

Replace Command Prompt with Windows PowerShell in the menu when I right-click the start button or press Windows key+X | ON

Show badges on taskbar buttons | ON

Taskbar location on screen | Bottom

Combine taskbar buttons | Always, hide labels

MULTIPLE DISPLAYS

Show taskbar on all displays | ON

Show taskbar buttons on | All taskbars

Combine buttons on other taskbars | Always, hide labels

    4 months later and the issue is still present.

    I have two PHILIPS 288E2A/00 monitors connected by DisplayPort and the system just ignores the "All taskbars" setting and displays only open windows on the second monitor every time it wakes up.

    Thank you Microsoft for encouraging more and more people every day to switch to macOS and Linux by constantly degrading the Windows Experience ❤

    You're right, my mistake! About 1 more year of support. Still, having rollback instructions in the thread is good for folks who want to go that route.

    Who knows if or when they'll ever prioritize fixing this - it's been months. I'm joining the tin foil hat gang that think they added or are leaving this bug in to punish us for not buying the newer version we don't want. :)

    I have Windows 10 PCs with the latest update and Windows 11 PCs with the latest update, and unfortunately I've seen this bug on both of them, so even if you upgraded your PC from Windows 10 to 11, it would not cure it!

    Sadly, it looks like the day when we take off our tin foil hats will never come.

    For me I get this consistently when a screen is disconnected and reconnected. This seems to include when screens sleep. It also seems to happen when switching to a fullscreen application like a game. Anything that changes the display significantly causes the problem.

    These are the only options I've found that can temporarily correct it, no other Taskbar Settings seemed to make a difference:

    • Toggling "Show taskbar on all displays" off and on
    • Switching the selection under "Multiple Displays > Show taskbar buttons on" and switching it back
    • Restarting Windows Explorer (or restarting the computer, which would also do this)

    Each of these will bring icons back to all my displays, but then if a display is connected, it resets and hides my task icons again on secondary displays.

    Can you also confirm another option that temporarily fixes it:

    Have a window open of a program connected to the taskbar and while it's open unpin and re-pin it to the taskbar. For some reason that's another option that works for me.

    Wanted to note that this also works for me, although its obviously not a fix. May assist in troubleshooting.

    All of the icons that should be displayed appear instantly after I unpin one of the windows displayed on the affected monitor.

    1. Try updating the AMD chipset drivers for your processor https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/processors/ryzen/ryzen-3000-series/amd-ryzen-7-3700x.html
    2. Also, try flashing the the latest BIOS version to your motherboard. Might need an external USB drive for this.
