"Show taskbar buttons on: All Taskbars" setting keeps resetting on sleep

Same problem here, guys...

This is really annoying! Here the problem on the reseting the taskbar state is related to the regedit path: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced on the key MMTaskbarMode.

Here I have an HDMI KVM, and everytime when I change the monitors, this configuration it's lost, but... Without lose the value on the key.

I've did a .bat to reset the explorer.

I'm looking for a solution since November, 2024.

Whoever, this week I think i've found a solution with Auto Hotkey.

On my situation, the problem occurs everytime when I activate/deactivate the KVM. And the solution was a script on the AHK, to restart the explorer, when the system notice the change on the USB conection from the KVM.

For who wants another method, just use the copilot or another IA to make changes on the code, its possible to trigger some other changes, like the number of displays, or the screen resolution to restart the "explorer.exe" and correct the taskbar.

Try doing an in-place upgrade.

1st - Go to this site and enable developer tools in your browser (F12). You will need to turn on the mobile device viewing mode and refresh the page to see the download for the Windows 10 ISO.

2nd - After the ISO file has been downloaded:

• Double-click on the ISO file downloaded to open it.
• Double-click on the "setup .exe". The installation package will commence
• "Getting things ready" Read the license terms and then click Yes to continue.
• Click on Accept
• Select Upgrade this PC now and click Next.
• Then the download will begin. Note that it may take a few minutes to finish downloading Windows 10.
• On the Ready to install screen, ensure ‘Keep personal files and apps’ is selected (it is selected by default), and click Install to start installing Windows 10.
• Once the installation is done, you can log back in to your account.

There haven't been any official MS replies to this post in a while, so I suspect it has been unfollowed/lost.

People are seeing this issue reliably enough that I believe it should be raised to the OS dev team as a bug and put on their backlog to fix.

Nothing you have posted in this thread is helpful. Are Microsoft Support Agents trained to not help anyone and just waste end user's time? Because that's been my consistent experience on answers.microsoft.com for years. I can't remember one single time a Microsoft Support Agent ever actually fixed a problem!

Just want to say I've been experiencing this for months and it's annoying as heck. Saw people discussing processors and GPUs, been on Intel i5-12600KF the whole time this has happened but switched from an AMD GPU to an NVIDIA GPU a few weeks ago and the problem is the same. My GPU drivers never get more than a few weeks out of date, just updated them a few days ago, no change. Don't have News and Interests on and don't want it.

Hope Microsoft fixes it but the Microsoft agents who respond to all these threads are famously unhelpful, I'd like the Microsoft Agent on this thread to note that not a single one of their replies was rated as Helpful by anyone, because they just aren't. This is clearly a widespread issue that's built into Windows 10 and has nothing to do with processor, GPU, or other user-dependent problems.
