Proxy Settings Per User - problems

Can anyone advise me how to stop the 'Proxy settings per user' in the Registry under 'Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings' from returning to Zero everytime I reboot the PC when I want it to stay set at 1. I am not an expert on PC but can sort things out if I'm given clear instructions. I am running the latest up to date version of Windows 10. Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Ramesh,

    Well I don't know what we've done between us but I set the system as you said above to check things out and I ensured the Proxy User was set to 1 and then did all as per your instructions. When I checked again on the Proxy User it was still at 1!

    I then closed the PC down again, this time switching it of completely, then switched on again and left things until all was running correctly then checked the Proxy User and it was still at 1 so it looks like we've had success! Perhaps the clean start and then switching everything on again has cleared whatever glich that was there. Only time will tell and I will let you know if it starts doing it again, I take it you don't want the ProcMon trace that I did last off do you?

    Many thanks for all your help and patience in working this matter through and fingers crossed all will work fine now.

    Hi John,

    Maybe the clean boot procedure has worked.

    If you wish to narrow down the offending app/service, please see "How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot" in the clean boot article.

    The ProcMon logs can be unshared or deleted (for privacy reasons.)

    Hi Ramesh,

    Spoke to soon as the problem has returned but it was OK until I opened up MS Edge and I had some problems connecting then I checked the Proxy User and it had gone back to 0 - based on the info you have given me I will play with it tomorrow hopefully and see if I can prove it's Edge. If I think it is I will run the ProcMon again and not collect the data until I have run up Edge, I'll contact you then and you can then take a look at that info and see if that gives you any clues. Once more thanks for the patience and help it is much appreciated.

    Ok, let me know how it goes. I wonder how Edge modifies a value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE without elevation.

    Hi Ramesh back again.

    Today I set the ProxyUser to 1, I then ran Procman to view the boot, I restarted the PC and once running I checked the ProxUser and it was still at 1, However, I noticed in the background iCloud booting up and as soon as this had happend I checked the PU and it had reverted to zero. I have put the latest Procman log into one drive, for some reason there was only one log this time so I do not know if I did something wrong but if so I don't know what. I now intend to stop iCloud running on the PC and see what happens then but I use iCloud for my phones etc. so I don't know what if anything you can suggest about this if it does turne out to be iCloud causing the problem. I will let you know the outcome shortly, Many thanks....
