Hi

I just made the asked the messenger update, and now all external links opens up in EDGE instead of my default browser. And I see no option to set it back.

    Ever since the Messenger app became an "Edge" app, it's been total garbage. The notifications are unusable, the links open in a browser that no one wants or uses and the user experience is way worse than before. Unbelievable that someone would publish this in 2024. This feels 2004.

    The main issue is the Windows messenger cant receive or get notified when someone calls, no ringing or notification of missed call, even when notifications are turned on. Anyone else have this issue and know how to fix it? FB messenger Support offers no help, they dont even respond

    WOW, Did not know that.
    I can use this for so many other things.
    Like CIG's Spectrum and so on.
    Super usefull.

    The correct solution was given above, but I think it missed one step. Unless you uninstall Messenger first, Chrome won't give you the option (at least for me)

    1. Go to "add or remove programs" in Windows settings and uninstall messenger.
    2. Open chrome
    3. Go to messenger.com -- login if needed
    4. Click 3 dots on upper right
    5. Look for Cast, save, and share
    6. Click Install page as app

    The good news is, because the app is just an edge browser, using a Chrome browser it will look exactly the same as the app, except for being Chrome. Well... you may need to do Ctrl-scroll wheel to change the zoom level, or Ctrl-+ and -

    Haven't read the whole thread, but it looks like that the new Messenger is basically just an edge app. If I kill edge, Messenger dies. Basically Facebook aren't bothering to make a real app, so it will always open links in Edge, because it's already IN Edge.

    You might want to read a little more of the thread. Only recently did the app become connected with Edge, so you can use an older version (up to v. 2150.23.211.0) without that issue - up through that version it was an independent app developed by Meta that did not run on any browser, so it will send links to whatever browser you have set as your default.
