new messenger opens links in EDGE instead of default browser.

This new FB desktop messenger is awful. Cant receive calls from phones, cant see missed calls in chat box, sometimes messages are missing , it terrible. Take this off microsoft edge.

Agree. I feel deeply disrespected by both Microsoft and Meta for putting their corporate interests as a roadblock to the way I keep in touch with my friends who haven't moved on to better services. This update is inconvenient and unnecessary, and I am going to advocate for migrating all my groups away Meta platforms if this is how we are going to be treated.

I found the best way to do this! Here are two options and they don't make the app appear as Facebook like the other suggestions:

Method 1:

• Open messenger.com in Google Chrome
• Click the three dots "⋮" to the right of your profile up top.
• Under the drop down "Cast, save, and share," Click "Install Messenger"

If that doesn't work, try Method 2:

• Go to messenger in Chrome
• Press Ctrl+Shift+I to open the inspect element panel
• Go down to the bottom where it says "Console" and then click the three dots to the left
• Click "Network Conditions." This adds a new tab next to "Console"
• In this new panel, scroll down until you find the section titled "User agent"
• Uncheck "Use Browser Default" and then in the drop-down menu, under Microsoft Edge, select "Microsoft Edge (Chromium) - Windows"
• Reload the page (without closing the inspect panel), and then the install icon should appear in the URL bar like normal!

This installs the PWA that is attached to Edge in the new version, but from Google Chrome instead

Right click on the link, copy it and paste into Chrome as a workaround. I hate Edge and Meta with a passion. If it weren't for Marketplace, I'd delete the app for good.

Hi, I just tried that here and that installed an app that just takes me to my Facebook profile instead.

However, you can get Messenger in the browser of your choice instead by looking for Messenger™ in Extension in the Chrome Webstore if you using a chromium browser.

If you are using Firefox instead, then head over to Mozilla Addons and look for App for Messenger™ there.

I tried both of those here and they do open up messenger in the browser upon clicking on their icons.

I also did try to go to https://www,messenger.com which is Facebook Messenger and there is no download arrow that appears there in the address bar.
