I got my update, through Windows Update.
It still had the same problem.
So, I am not sure that explanation is applicable to everybody.

Using Windows 11 24H2 26100.1742, got the update for KB5044284.
This downloaded and extracted fine, then restarted the PC. The update got to the 30% and restarted. On the reboot the update continued until 40%, when it hung for about 8 minutes, then gave an error message (with no reference) and rolled back.
Windows Update in Settings App shows Error 0x800f0922.

Maybe the following repair installation method will help.
- Download Windows 11 Media Creation Tool (MCT) from this link:

- Run MCT and download the ISO it recommends for your system. Do *not* uncheck "Use the recommended options for this PC".

- Right-click on the downloaded ISO and choose "Mount." This assigns the ISO a drive letter.
- Run setup.exe from the ISO drive. This starts the repair installation.
(Your files, settings and applications will be preserved if you use the ISO recommended for your system by the Media Creation Tool.)
Doing this again after the december patch released, fix it permanently for me. Just installed the latest preview patch, no issues what so ever.
This seems to be the only solution that is 100% waterproof. Other option like renew the installation, gave me some issue.

2025-01-14T20:35:46+00:00 Just tried to install kb5050009, through Windows Update, 14th January, and it failed as usual at 37%.
Only doing the repair install through Windows Update did I manage to update to OS Build 26100.2894.
So, this problem is definately not solved or fixed.
