Windows 11, version 24H2 won't install

Virtual bootable disk which is your DVD drive... not a real one. It gives you that if the iso type of file isn't linked to something else by accident... happened to me once but 99% time should be OK.

You need the iso file from here:

That gives you the virtual drive.... but as I've said countless times once started when it comes to install you don't select update drivers now, change that to no or whatever. Faster and doesn't lead to drivers incorrectly installed. If it does install, all drivers get updated as part of the installed. Change early on and you may get lumbered with incompatible ones.

You might have other problems after that but that's how you update from ISO. Keep files and programs.

If you don't have the "Mount" option in that right-click menu, use the "Open with" option and pick File Explorer.

When that "Mount" option is not present, it's because there is no APP associated with .ISO files. You can fix that by adding that association. Go to Settings and in the search box start typing "file assoc" and the option to do that will pop up.

That's how you get the ISO mounted, normally you just double clock it. Best to watch a YouTube video you take keep files and programs and you don't update the drivers now. That is the default, toggle to off. It's faster that method, the drivers get updated if installed fine as part of the process, but updating them early can lead to the system being hung.

This is only the first step and if it installs, the only step. If it can't install it rolls back (normally) but with rogue drivers it can end up in a stuck boot area. Cross that bridge if it comes to it. It will set up a new boot error but won't boot to windows... you then delete the offending install if that happens. Stuff on line will tell you about that and how to sort it out if it occurs.
