**This is my "story", where I tell you step by step how I managed (through difficulties) to finally complete the 24H2 update easily and without any problems!**👍

I installed the big 24H2 update on my computer (HP 470 G9 laptop, Windows 11 Pro).

It failed several times at first, when I tried to install it in several different ways!

Here are the different steps:

1) It originally appeared for download on Windows Update on Nov 22. I tried to download it 2 times – the download always stopped at 8%

2) It appeared again on Windows Update on Dec 15. Now the download and installation proceeded to the end – but then the installer started automatically undoing the changes made to the computer --> reverted back to v. 23H2

3) I then tried installing from the ISO file --> failed (for some reason it reported a problem with the installation language (?) --> could not select the option at all: “Keep my files and apps”

**4) The update finally went well and without any problems with this method:**💻👍👍

I just wanted to drop into here and thank you for the hvciscan tip. This fully Win11 compliant Lenova Legion laptop I'm typing on would make it all the way through the painfully slow upgrade to 24H2 and would bomb out during the second boot phase with error code: 0xC1900101 - 0x40017 Yep, a device driver problem of some sort. I ran hvciscan and it reported SIX .sys files that were not compatible with the new memory model:

jlinkx64.sys

ssdudfu.sys

VIA_USB_ETS.sys

mbtusbser.sys

wdcsam64_prewin8.sys

PxHlpa64.sys

I researched all six of those and decided, what the heck, it'll run without those and I renamed (*.old) all six to prevent loading. I reran hvciscan and it reported no problems. I reran the 24H2 setup (I used the .iso) and Win11 24H2 installed. Some day when I'm bored I'll clean up the registry.

The only problem with the installation assistant is if it goes wrong it doesn't give you the Microsoft error code. The mount ISO file will but you toggle off the preferred settings. Then you'll get the error code and can start debugging of where it's going wrong. Some posters have sharper methods on the debugging. To do it yourself without help you have to have an analytic brain and keep records. Take a copy of the drivers before you alter anything so you can re-trace back. The final boot at plus 70% where it got me with driver integrity. Solution that tool.

Updating the drivers had introduced a known Microsoft bug in the first boot which from a Google subsequently determined that people on the Insider programme knew about it... but wasn't fixed. So reverted back.

Did a Farbar and looked at the output of that. Checked for any resident anti virus programs installed. None. So it came down to the drivers being incompatible on the final boot that cooks everything up. The log text that you find muttered incompatible drivers. Then honed in on what people were saying on Googles where on a remote corner of the Internet somebody told somebody else to run the Microsoft memory integrity tool. That did the trick.

It never stopped at 8%, got to 70%, then fell to 30% with a rogue driver introduced. Back to 70% having cleared that up. One Adobe DVD driver was the issue. That needed to be surgically removed from the driver store....

A long and tortures process. In the meantime the owner of the laptop had, had a heart operation and was into full recovery. The laptop took longer. Didn't need rehab thou.
