Yes, looks like the registry edit is unsupported in Home Edition. Deliberately triggering a gated block (e.g., having <20 GB of free space on the OS partition or creating a wallpaper registry key to inform the appraiser that a 3rd party wallpaper customization app is installed) should prevent the 24H2 upgrade from being installed automatically via Windows Update. It's a hackish way to stop the 24H2 feature update, but it works.

I agree that 24H2 is causing problems in many systems. After that date it's unsupported for updates. I guess 25h2 will just be out just in time if they managed to sort out the drivers and climbed down from the new backend security. That's right up to the wire. I doubt Microsoft will loosen up on security which is preventing the upgrade in some instances.

Failing that, back everything up and rebuild the computer software with a fresh install and copy back your data. If on a network and enough drive space, easier to do it that way. The same way you may use when you buy a new computer. Drives you take off the manufacturer's website. After installing 24h2 you then install your favourite programs that might have the buggy drivers that had prevented the upgrade.

For sure for your average user or ageing pensioner with computer skills, taxing.

Ramesh, first of all, I really appreciate your knowledge and good guidance in this thread.

But … there are currently 1.5 billion Windows computers in use in the world, almost 700 million of which are running Windows 11.

And 24H2 is the biggest update since 2021 (when Windows 11 was released).

Since you are a Microsoft Moderator and have much more knowledge than us ordinary users, so …  could you give honest answers/comments to my questions below?

I'm sure many others are interested in them too:

1) How on earth did Microsoft have such a "disaster" when installing 24H2 --> reliability has completely disappeared?

**2) What happens to the huge number of ordinary users who don't have the necessary know-how or time for these complicated fixes for installation if needed that may not even help - they try and try again but will never succeed?**💻🤔😒
