Windows 11, version 24H2 won't install

Kind of a crazy response from Microsoft.

This update is totally corrupt and it’s a problem from Microsoft’s end. I’m a systems administrator and spent 1 month with our external IT team running background scripts to push this update through to over 12 different PCs. At one point it gave me an error saying the PC was not compatible, when the laptops were all brand new.

After OVER A MONTH we finally got all systems up to date…weird because according to Microsoft the system was not compatible?

Saying this is a system problem and “try clearing your cache” is a joke. Be honest and admit you guys released a corrupted version update, that’s at least respectable.

FINALLY! After trying to innstall this update with nothing but failure since November - it seems like the last try succeeded. Gave up actively trying to fix the issue mid January. Paused automatic updates for 3-5 weeks and waited for the retry to fail once a month after that. But today - it works. Low and behold..

Think I might have to do a little celebration dance later today. Never thought this day would come.

Well done. Probably Microsoft updated a pesky driver that was causing the issue.

Yes, looks like the registry edit is unsupported in Home Edition. Deliberately triggering a gated block (e.g., having <20 GB of free space on the OS partition or creating a wallpaper registry key to inform the appraiser that a 3rd party wallpaper customization app is installed) should prevent the 24H2 upgrade from being installed automatically via Windows Update. It's a hackish way to stop the 24H2 feature update, but it works.

Thanks - but I upgraded to 24H2 on my Windows 11 Pro computer easily, without any problems, last November using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant.😀
