I have exactly the same problem as this (reported earlier this year), but with the new KB5048239 update. I get the 0x80070643 error when it tries to install. Retried several times, but same issue. I'm pretty sure this is the same problem that I had back in January, too. All security updates have worked fine since then, till now. At that time I was told that this was a general problem with the update and a fix was being made by Microsoft. I did wait and eventually that previous update went away. Now here we are again...

Hello,

The 2024-01 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034441) will not install on my Windows 10 laptop computer.

I get the following message There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070643) Retry

When I click on Retry it says its Installing-0% for a few minutes then Installed-100% and then I get Download Error (0x80070643) There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070643) Retry

Windows Update Troubleshooter could not fix this problem.

I'm not sure what to do, please help.

Thank you

Then what is your explanation for why this problem arose and persists despite us implementing all the instructions to fix it?

Your inappropriate, anger-filled, reply is not helpful.

Obviously, it is a failure within Microsoft's "Quality Assurance" department. It was they who did not do enough testing on a variety of computers, with a variety of sizes of the "WinRE" partition, before "approving" the update for inclusion in the monthly release of Security Updates.

Take a brand-new disk-drive, and use "cloning" software to copy each partition from your "antique" (and out-of-warranty) disk-drive onto the new disk-drive. The cloning software can be used to slightly shrink the "C:" partition, and then to use that freed-up space to merge with the "WinRE" partition, to expand that partition. Then, rerun the update. This worked for me.

Contact Microsoft, because they offer free technical support for all Windows-Update-related issues, such as this one.

Is it possible that your "C:" disk-drive is too full to record the successful update?

Try running the "Disk Cleanup" app, to free-up some space.

If using Microsoft Outlook, its "PST" file can contain "dead" space (disk-space that is no longer associated with any E-mail).

Use Outlook to "compact" that PST.

I think that 400gb of free space can be enough for 2 updates of a few mb.

My computer and operating system has no problem, the problem is the broken updates released by Microsoft.
