Phone link error 256 with S22 Ultra

I have had Phone link working for years with my Samsung Galaxy S22 ultra.

Recently, part of the functionality stopped working, specifically, the "open phone screen" part. I keep getting an error 256.

The phone is on Wifi, connected to a Ubiquiti NanoHD.

The PC is a desktop on 10 Gbps ethernet.

Both are in the same /24 subnet, using DHCP with IP reservations in the router.

The phone says it's connected to the PC. The PC says the phone is connected to it.

I can see the phone's text messages & photos on the PC.

I just can't open the phone screen on my PC, or show any app on my PC's screen.

    Samsung support wasn't much help. Asked me to do a number of things we all have tried multiple times and then was told to contact MS. 100% what I expected to happen. On with MS support now.

    If you mean version 1.23091.116.0 from Oct 2, 2023, I installed it, but am not able to use it at all. I'm wondering which phone you are using and what version of the Android Link to Windows app you have that allows you to communicate without this message.

    After reading all the suggestions and comments, I figured out how to get mine working again. I did a (save files) reset for Windows a few days ago, hence I have the latest Window update, but it was not working.
    So throwing all caution to the wind, I went to Older versions of Phone Link (Windows) | and randomly scrolled to the bottom of 2nd page and chose the October 2nd update (I know it was working then).

    I went through all the prompts to install that, including copying the code the pc gave to enter into the phone. Actually, I ended doing that process twice.

    Notes:

    * I did not regress the windows update but left it current

    * In looking at the "link to windows app" information, it showed that I had 2 instances of my computer listed (both showing disconnected). I thought this might be causing it, but just as an fyi there is no way to delete one, and so that's when I tried the method above.
