Using Phone Link on computer it creates a group in chat - and does not send message to recipient

Phone is up to date

Computers are both up to date with MS update

BUT

Using Phone Link when I send a message to one of the people I message often rather than send message it creates a group. (see below)

On my phone it then shows as a group chat - which I can't edit

Works fine on my phone - but not on Phone Link - on both computers I own. Screenshot of how it ends up below.

I also have quite a few messages where both the name of recipient and my phone number comes up - just a bit of a pain.

I'd really appreciate any help on this

Thanks heaps

Gary

You can certainly give feedback, and every user's opinion is important. The issue will be submitted to the developers at Microsoft. You can also send a feedback link to a reply and users experiencing the same problem, including myself, will help you vote.

I have same issue since the last update of phonelink and have been using Google messages for more than 1 year with phonelink without this problem. Basically phonelink thinks my most replied sms thread is a group chat with (even though it is not in the SMS app) and if I try to reply from phonelink I get 2 sms, one to me and one to the actual receiver. I have tried to create a new sms thread from phonelink directly to see if this was a problem with the update but after a reply the same thread gets merged with the fake group thread.

My google message app for sms has not been updated in the meanwhile so this must be a problem with the recent updates in phonelink.

Thanks for getting back to me about this.

I have a Samsung S21 and did use Samsung messages - but changed to Google messages as wanted to be able to have different notification sounds etc.

I would have thought Google messages would be a third-party SMS programme that would have been supported by Microsoft. I'm assuming that the Samsung messages could be.

    Would that be true?

Should I send a note through Feedback - as I use Phone Link a lot - and really want it to work correctly

    Thanks heaps

    Gary

    Hi GaryMZT.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I read your question carefully and your Phone Link looks basically normal. Based on your description, it looks like your messages will be sent normally and also show up on your phone, the problem looks like only this group icon. You can try sending your messages using the SMS program that came with your phone instead of a third party SMS program. Sometimes third-party SMS programs have problems.

If this issue affects your normal usage. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of settings in the program that can be tweaked by the user. I would love to be able to help, but I am not a Microsoft developer. You can give feedback on your problem at the website below, please be as detailed as possible in describing the problem you are experiencing. Microsoft developers see every user's feedback and your feedback is very important to us.

Yes....I'm getting these group chats formed randomly. I'll message my daughter from Phone Link...and Phone link creats a group chat with her number and my mobile number...so I end up getting messages twice....on my phone it shows up with the message I sent her and then that same message is also forwarded to me (that I originally sent) from Phone Link.
And messages I send to my daughter now appear in this new group chat...and not in our ongoing message thread just between us (that's been going for years).
On my phone, I now have a message thread just for my daughter and also a seperate group chat thread that Phone Link created between me and my daughter.....and the messages don't overlap. If I want to find a message, I have to go through both message threads...the individual one and the group chat one .

I just don't want the group chat....and I cannot find how to remove my number from it. I just want an individual chat.

It's very hard to explain, and it's driving me crazy!

My phone is a Google Pixel 7A
