Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11 and go to the Windows 11 installation assistant. I clicked the Download Now button and downloaded the Windows 11 24H2 ISO. Using the imgburn freeware software, I burned a new bootable Windows 11 24H2 DVD. In my case I had a dual boot system with 1 SAMSUNG 960 NVME M.2 SSD disk with Windows 10 in it and another one with a SAMSUNG 980 NVME M.2 SSD which had the Windows 11 version 22H2 which was the one that hit the end of its life span and couldn’t be upgraded. I restarted that disk and when it hit the UEFI, I pressed F8 a few times to get it to show the screen so I could select which DVD disk player/burner that had the bootable Windows 11 disk in it with version 24H2. I selected INSTALL Windows 11 option and when it got to the screen that requested which disk to install Windows 11 on, I selected the NVME M.2 disk with Windows 10 on it. I continued through all the prompts for Windows 11 24H2 on it. It continued installing the newest Windows 11 and I upgraded that disk. It then installed all the newest operating system updates software. I then installed all the other software like antivirus and other programs that I had on the Windows 11 22H2 disk. It kind of takes a long time but luckily I had a backup disk with all my software on it and the registration IDs. I now have a bootable Windows 11 24H2 disk and everything is working great.

Hopefully this writeup will help you. If you don’t have a DVD burner, I believe you can install the bootable Windows 11 24H2 on a thumb drive. from the https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11  website.

chuck_986, thanks for the reply. The method you describe sounds a little complex.

I have watched the 24H2 video on the Windows Health Hub, where they say they're slowly rolling out the upgrade to 24H2, and to wait until my machine shows "Window updates are available". Will this happen automatically, or do I have update Windows manually? I'd prefer it if the update just downloaded and installed quietly in the background, like it is supposed to, and then prompted me to restart.

I had the issue for quite some time on the Samsung NVME M.2 disk that had contained Windows 11 22H2 which indicated that it reached the end of life. I would doubt it if Windows ever released an upgrade through the Windows Update in settings to get your drive upgraded to 24H2. I tried manually multiple times for months without any luck.

The procedure I sent yesterday may look complex but in actuality it’s quite simple once you create a bootable DVD or thumb drive for Windows 11 24H2. However, I’ve been a software engineer for many years so what I think is simple may be complex to others. Hopefully you can buy a DVD burner if you don’t already have one to download and burn a Windows 11 24H2 disk or buy a thumb drive and have it create a bootable Windows 11 24H2 drive. Once you restart, you should see the Information to get into the BIOS which is called a UEFI now in modern systems. Once you see the UEFI screen on startup, you just need to press the F8 key a few times on your keyboard which will allow you to select the drive in which you want from. If you’re using a thumb drive, you’ll need to insert it into a USB port and select that port on the boot up screen which as I stated you will see when you press F8 a few times after seeing the UEFI screen right after the restart. If you have a DVD burner, you’ll need to select that UEFI DVD drive and press any key when it prompts you to press a key to boot up using the DVD drive. Once you boot up on either the thumb drive or DVD drive, after a short time, it should show you a screen to install Windows 11. You just need to continue follow the rest of the instructions I wrote up yesterday. Make sure you make a backup of all your important files before installing Windows 11 24H2 on the drive that you will use that will be overridden by the new Windows 11 24H2 operating system.

Maybe Microsoft will come out with an update from Windows 11 22H2 to 24H2 from the Windows Update in settings but I have my doubts.

Try updating to 23H2. It will get you in support until 24H2 is rolled out to your computer. What worked for me is to update Windows 11 to version 23H2 (x64). This gives me about 10 months to update to Windows 11, version 24H2, which doesn't seem to be available yet for my computers (at least it isn't showing up in Windows Update on my computers). To update from Windows 11, version 22H2 to 23H2, I followed the instructions in the July 25th, 2024 post by Ramesh Srinvasan (IA) here: how to install windows 11 23H2 and 24H2 feature update offline for - Microsoft Community. He provides a link to install the enablement package to quickly upgrade Windows 11 22H2 systems to 23H2 (https://catalog.sf.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/caa3ff4a-6420-4341-aeae-33b2d7f463be/public/windows11.0-kb5027397-x64_3a9c368e239bb928c32a790cf1663338d2cad472.msu). This is basically an offline package for the update. After downloading and then running the package locally, restarting, etc. I was able to run Windows updates and get the latest cumulative update for Windows 11, version 23H2. Everything is running.
