Was the laptop brand new and supplied with Windows 11 from the manufacturer. I believe non supported hardware workarounds in 24H2 are being restricted.

As you cannot use the assistant then you can try the ISO image file to carry out an in-place upgrade. However there may be issues even if it does work.

Download the ISO image from the same site you used to get the assistant and once downloaded open File Explorer and mount the ISO. You will see a new drive letter appear, select that and run setup then follow the prompts.

I downloaded the windows update assistant and the windows health app after it displayed that the processor doesn't support windows 11 the laptop came with windows 11 it has an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.90 GHz it should support windows 11 right?

I'm also wondering why they bought Surface 4 Pro which AFAIK is nearly 10 years old tech wise! Fortunately, the Surface Pros usually had quite leading edge CPU and these have 16GB RAM so their benchmark speeds aren't bad. That said, only 4 core/8 threads so middle of the road.

Later... I've worked out why - they're pretty cheap so if you're okay with relatively old hardware, they're a good buy for the small form factor.

Yes, it can be done by downloading the ISO, but no one on this thread has an answer as to why this is necessary. It seems to be a major failure on Microsoft's part. Perhaps if you leave it and forget about it, Microsoft will come up with a fix that will update it eventually. But the message is ominous and disturbing to the casual user.

I ran into the same thing after doing a clean install of Win11 using a USB stick that was created some time ago. Never had this problem with Windows 10 no matter how old the version of 10 that was installed, it would update automatically to the latest version.

Regarding shipping with an earlier version. The devices are manufactured then sit in a warehouse. Just shows when they were build. Or they have been using an older image.

This is nothing unusual. What is strange is why one would update using every version to 24H2 and not just go straight to 24H2.

That's what I did in the end. It was Windows update that went 22H2->22H3->22H4. The download utility went straight to 24H2. Annoyingly, the update program won't run until you also download and run the PC Health Check. Which passes fortunately!
