So my pc system settings say I'm on windows 11 pro but windows update says "Get the new version of windows to stay up to date Your version of windows has reached the end of service"

I am at work now, so will try all tonight...

My computer was still downloading the updates when I went to bed last night, so I let it run, did not turn it off, when I got up this morning, it did do a restart as it was back to the start menu.

Went into the System/updates and it showed info in red, updates, "need new version of Windows, etc", you know the rest....tried hitting the UPDATE NOW BUTTON, which was red, but no luck. Then, of course, had to leave for work, so I turned computer off, not home, bad weather, did not want to take a chance of power surges, etc...But when I get home tonight, will try again and leave computer on.

I do understand what you say about 23H2 updating, etc., when I go into the system, it does say I have Windows 11 Home Edition 23H2, no longer 22H2, but does not seem to be downloading the updates for 23H2 as you say. OK, no biggie, will try suggested steps tonight when I get home.

I REALLY DO APPRECIATE YOUR HELP, you seem to be the only one that knows what is going on, not even Office Depot Tech help could figure it out even after taking over my computer over the weekend.....

Home from work...settled in now...

I did not try the steps yet you suggested as that's a lot for a non computer geek like me, however, trying the updater again, and so far it is at 70% and climbing slowly but surely, so I am hoping it works...will keep the computer on all night if necessary, so lets see what happens...if that does not work, will try the steps you suggested which sound like a bit over my head, but will try tomorrow night if this update does not work...cross your fingers...

Sorry to say the update did not work, it still says I need the updated version of Windows 11 to get updates, etc...

I will try again tomorrow night after work with your methods, hopefully I will not kill my computer as I am not a computer geek and not really famaliar with some of the methods you told me to try.....but willing to...

Well, I said I was going to try tomorrow night, but I briefly read thru the different steps on what you suggested, do this, download that, etc....well, after reading it and reading the instructions, it really flipped me out, I don't understand half of what is being said, download this, do that, harddrive this, Zipfile that....etc..

Sorry to say, what is suggested is way over my head, don't understand half of it, so I am going to pass on it, I will just have to live with Windows 11 Home with no upgrades. You did suggest in another message to download the installation assistant and follow instructions to get Windows 11. I already have the installation assistant in my downloads folder and it says "click here to download Windows 11"...should I give that a try even though I already have Windows 11 Home? That sounds like the easiest way to go, worth a try, but won't do it will tomorrow night.......thoughts?

Hello,

The Installation Assistant and the other methods I've listed upgrades your PC to the newest version of Windows 11 (24H2).

Even if you already have Windows 11, that's just a way to "circumvent" Windows Update and get to the latest version.

Think of it as a shortcut to get your groceries . Your laptop is your house and it goes to the store (Windows Update) to get new updates. That process could take a while. But, the Media Creation Tool and the ISO is a delivery service where you can get your stuff faster. Does that make more sense?

Also, the Installation Assistant isn't very helpful in upgrading your PC, so using the other two methods would usually suffice.

Since 23H2 won't be going out of support and you don't necessarily want to upgrade just yet, you will be just fine staying on the Windows version that you already have.
