Latest Windows 11 24/H2 Release and Graphics Issues

Before the 24H2 Win update, our NEW "Puget Systems" Video Editing Workstation was fantastic. 6 mo. later after 24H2, the auto update feature of intel (i9-14900k) and NVIDIA (RTX4090) began competing over default settings. I watched each auto updated come in day after day, back and forth, with both asking to be the default. (iGPU and GPU) Realized this might be a problem and stopped all updates. But it was too late, 24H2 couldn't be removed. I reverted Win. 11 to an early date before the Intel / NVIDIA updates and everything appeared to be O.K. not the same or as fast as before but O.K.

After these few updates, I realized Davinci Resolve 18.6 had slowed to a crawl. H.265 Quick Sync feature had been automatically removed from settings. Which was a show stopper for H.265 (4:2:0 )codec. DR will Render out H.265 videos twice as fast using Quick Sync vs RTX4090 alone.

After running several test, I verified the Workstation is slower and processing edits differently. iGPU and GPU would run close to 100% before. Now neither will operate beyond 50% most of the time. Maybe surge to 80% and right back down to 25% and then sit at 50%. Before if under heavy rendering load, both would stay between 80 - 100% and nothing slowed them down. Until after this 24H2 update. Why. . . ? Everything was great

I don't have time to waste the day or weeks testing variables to help Win. intel, NVIDIA be better. I'll adjust work flow to work around it. Which is why I spent the money on a high end machine to handle these issues / set backs.

You should just re-install Win11 23H2 if you can.

MS needs to allow people to download older ISOs as some systems can't even run the newer ones at all making recovery impossible.

As I've said before, I think MS needs to be sued for not offering consumers older ISOs. You have to pay 1000$ a year to get access to this otherwise.

Did you contact Puget Systems about these issues?. I was wondering if their support group had come across these issues with Win 11 24h2?

If you bought your system from them they should help you I would have thought.

My system is still on Win 11 23H2 and I will take a full System Image (with Windows Back Up utility) before it touches my system.

I can then to restore everything if Win 11 24H2 turns out to be a disaster

BTW - Did you report all the problems you experienced with Win 11 24H2 via the Microsoft Feedback process as well?.

Also wondering if other Da Vinci Resolve users were shouting about these issues too?, hope so.

I'm still on Adobe Premiere Software but some users have H265 issues on Win 11 24H2.

No information on these problems ever seems to be documented in NVidia release documentation either .....not for something as serious as this.

Win. 11 is trying to force 23H2 users to 24H2.

I allowed Win. 11 system updates to install latest updates and next thing I know, 24H2 is trying to install.

I didn't select 24H2 to install. Only the lessor updates from 1-2 mo. ago.

I have now turned off updates but it's only a matter of time before a security update, Intel, NVIDIA, etc. is required or 24H2 required.

We won't be able to prevent Win. required updates going forward in the near future.

All this mess is causing users big headaches.

I think Microsoft have lost the concept of Quality Assurance software tests !

Its probably going to be wise for me to take a Win 11 23H2 system image soon on my editing platform - as this seems to be working OK.

However, even then, Win 11 24H2 will force its way in again.

I have posted a question on the Intel Community as well asking for latest status on Win 11 24H2 and iGPU known issues and potential conflicts with NVidia card drivers. I'll post here if any useful information

Loading drivers at present is like walking in the dark as no manufacturer wants to admit they have issues !
