Latest Windows 11 24/H2 Release and Graphics Issues

I have read issues around Windows 11 24H2 which cause disruption /conflicts with GPU (eg NVidia) and iGPU (eg Intel Graphics)

I use both GPU's for Video and Photography processing for the Apps I have.

My iGPU is Enabled in BIOS and should not be disabled which it seems can happen with Windows 11 24H2. This is a step into the dark ages.

From evidence I see Windows 11 24H2 kills the iGPU

Has anyone else found this and what is Microsoft doing to fix it?

In response to William's reply - please do not take my mark as 'unhelpful' as personal. This is a reflection on how the Microsoft organisation support users when issues like this occur.

Microsoft's support processes and organisation in cases such as this are inadequate and needs improvement.

This support page appears to try to deal with all Windows 11 issues and does not allow granularity on reporting specific Graphics hardware compatibility problems with this new release.

The failure of an onboard iGPU (Intel) in a Windows system to work alongside a discrete GPU in a major Windows release is a serious functional problem and needs priority focus to fix.

Any problem like this should have been trapped at QA stage prior to release to the public.

As regards just ASUS devices being affected, this is in fact not correct as I have seen users of MSI Motherboards also reporting exactly the same issue. It is not solely limited to ASUS.

I looked at the reported problems link you included.

This does not mention issues with a Graphics iGPU. It simply states there can be a problem to complete the Windows update to 24H2.

I think this refers to a different issue entirely.

The ASUS models mentioned in this article are in fact Laptops, not discrete PC Desktop motherboards such as ASUS Z series.

There is not even any mention in Microsoft's bulletin here about the ASUS Z890 series as published below by ASUS themselves. https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1054046/

As a result, I have not gained any new insight into what is happening about this iGPU/GPU issue on Windows 24/H2 release from Microsoft.

    Hello 300BaudDialUp,

I noticed that you marked my prior reply as "unhelpful". I'm sorry that as the Microsoft Community support team, I am unable to give you very professional answers on your issue with hardware compatibility with latest Windows Update and doubts about the latest software developments. But judging from the information in your reply, which you did not mention in your first place, if you are using an Asus device, the compatibility issues between the 24H2 update and ASUS devices are indeed known and public. Microsoft has a dedicated page to introduce the known issues in the 24H2 update package, which mentions the compatibility issues of some ASUS devices. You can click this page to view it:

Windows 11, version 24H2 known issues and notifications | Microsoft Learn

This page is updated continuously. Microsoft is actively working with ASUS to resolve the problem. You can follow this page regularly to learn about the latest progress.

Sorry, Microsoft does not have a dedicated Graphics/Video expert support team for users to contact. In addition to the hotline (mainly to solve purchasing problems), the main online feedback channel for users is here. Software development and hardware compatibility issues are beyond our support scope, but we still try our best to provide you with the latest information. I hope you can be satisfied with this answer.

    Best Regards,

William.Y | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

    Hi

Thanks for confirming you are experiencing the same issues with 24H2 and iGPU.

There does not seem to be any visibility from Microsoft on this saying they are 'officially' aware.

I'll see if this can be escalated

I have the same issue. All the video related software either stopped using the iGPU of my Inte;'s processor or uses is just e bit showing the 3D (not decode or encode) load which is a complete nonsense. The overall CPU load meanwhile went up. I tried different versions of the software, different drivers, even turned off my GPU from power and in Windows 11 23h2 it's OK while in 24h2 the iGPU is not used.

To be noted - my iGPU works perfectly, the drivers are all up to date. I can game on the iGPU but all the video related software in the new Windows doesn't use it at all.

OK let me a bit clearer on this topic

At present I have seen various reports including those from other manufacturers who have said that Windows 11 24H2 has caused iGPU and GPU functionality issues

I am on Winodws 11 23H2 at present and have temporarily paused an update to Windows11 24H2 until I get some crystal clear information in Microsoft on this problem

Fellow users on the forum I use for Video editing (Adobe) have reported issues since updating to Windows11 24H2 from 23H2.

I use all very latest drivers on Intel and Nvidia, so do they.

The Video editing software utilises both iGPU and GPU for decoding footage such as H264 and H265 - this utilises both resources and limits demand on CPU from Software decoding. This has been around for years.

    https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1054046/

In this ASUS Z890A motherboard notice (see link above) it states Windows11 24H2 causes conflicts and the 'fix' for now is to disable th iGPU. This is not acceptable, since people using both resources need iGPU and GPU functioning.

THeir work around is to simply 'disable' the Intel iGPU. This is NOT a fix.

Please re-direct my query to the Microsoft Graphics/Video expert support teams (if that is possible) - if not, how do I get to them to understand what is going on.

It seems to be impossible to have informed communication with anyone in Microsoft Support on this topic.

    Thank you
