Need fix for lost audio from update to Windows 24H2

Hello John and many thanks for the reply. Still no luck I’m afraid.

I followed your instructions and managed to get some way, up to when you mention rightclick the volume icon on the task bar. At this point I get message “no audio device is installed”.

I then opened device manager and Reltek Audio was listed (it wasn’t before) but no older drivers were listed.

I did a restart anyway, but I still get the message “no audio device is installed”.

I have added some screenshots which I hope will help.

Are you able to select RealTek when you go to System:Sound?
Example:

I have tried all your suggestions but I can't see my internal speaker or microphone. I accepted a Windows 11 update last week. I tried doing a restore but it doesn't look like it took. Last time I had this problem I was able to roll back the driver for the Realtek Audio Driver and got the speaker back but still didn't have the microphone. This time I can't even see the Realtek Driver anymore.

My history shows the current version of Windows 11 is the 23H2. It was 24H2 but it looks like I was able to restore it back to 23H2 - the install previous to the 24H2 update.

I have a Acer - Aspire 5

I posted my solution weeks ago, i.e., use Windows online help function and let Microsoft fix it, but keep getting posts. Nothing onscreen shows how to delete my original request -- of course. Useful information turns out to be much harder to find than other stuff.
