Need fix for lost audio from update to Windows 24H2

I have the same problem with no sound randomly with an external DAC on 24H2 and I have to toggle stereo to mono and back again and it magically works. A pain but quickly doable. Microsoft, please fix this.

My experience has been that Windows Updates have been changing aspects of the speaker device. I have an

external device that has audio in/out functionality -- so I renamed the speaker for that device to something else.

It is NOT the system default -- I defined that as a different device.

What's been happening is that the default moves from the one I defined as default, to the device that I've

defined as a communication only device. In addition, the speaker icon gets an X (disabled). My external device

doesn't function properly when the speaker its disabled, so this requires manually going back to re-enable the

speaker (I do this right on the taskbar icon).

The most frustrating aspect is that this started a few months ago, and has persisted through every Windows

update. I've been unable to determine any type of workaround for this issue, and since the mini-pc is in an offsite location, I don't always catch when the problem occurs firsthand. Someone usually tells me there's an issue and

I have to connect to the remote station and manually evaluate what's happened.

I also lost in and out built-in Realtek sound on my ASUS Zen laptop when 24H2 was installed yesterday.
I had previously lost in and out sound in November when version 10.29.0.11516 (14 Oct 2024) of the Intel Smart Sound Technology BUS driver was installed by my Driver Updater. Reverting to 10.29.0.11261 (06 Aug 2024) at that time solved the problem.

After having the problem again with the inbuilt sound devices after installing 24H2 - though being able to use an external USB mic and external USB sound bar OK - I have today had 10.29.0.11525 (18 Oct 2024) of the Intel SST BUS Driver installed by my Driver Updater.

I now have the in-built sound devices back OK.

After updating to Win 11 24H2, neither speaker worked. No sound at all. I keep a series of drive C images and stamped down the one made prior to the upgrade. The speakers worked, as before. Hmmmmmm........ So I reinstalled the 24H2 update again (using Windows Update). It took about 1hr, 20 minutes to complete (a ridiculous period of time in my opinion) but this time my speakers worked fine! (BTW: Device Manager showed my sound drivers were hosed after the first 24H2 update but I couldn't update the drivers on my MiniPC. Couldn't locate them)
