Windows Update Troubleshooter failing to run, anyone else having problems?

Both my Desktop and Laptop are suffering the same problem when attempting to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Operating system is Windows 11 24H2 with all updates applied to 11 December 2024 including KB5048667. After going through to the point where the troubleshooter runs, I get "I'm sorry.  I was unable to run the Windows Update diagnostic. I might need to transfer you to an agent to help solve your problem." I've done all the obvious (sfc, DISM) and no problems were found. I'm thinking it must be a generic problem as it happens on both my Windows 11 machines.

Thank you so much Ramesh Srinivasan! My problem was solved using your suggested link for "repair install Windows 11 via Settings". Have a great day!

    Same issue here,

Neither the December update (KB5048667) nor the January one (KB5050009) will install.

At best they will download, sometimes even install to 100% but either it fails and tells you to try again or after restarting and a long "upgrade in progress" nothing really happens.

I have tried downloading the msu packages from catalog.update.microsoft. It did not work.

Am I supposed to reinstall Windows? I know that you can keep apps and files but I distrust that it will keep my entire settings and I am not in the mood of starting from zero again.

Please provide a solution different to reinstalling Windows.

One thing that helped for me was resetting Windows Update via this tool:

    https://www.elevenforum.com/t/reset-windows-update-in-windows-11.3808/

Afterwards, it took a while for the updates to download and install and about 30 minutes to restart my PC but it worked. Hope it helps you too!

Reinstall? As I understand - it will only keep Microsoft apps. If you have anything else that is installed locally with its data, you will have to reinstall the app and its data from a backup and hope you have the licence key and can re-register.
