Both my Desktop and Laptop are suffering the same problem when attempting to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Operating system is Windows 11 24H2 with all updates applied to 11 December 2024 including KB5048667. After going through to the point where the troubleshooter runs, I get "I'm sorry. I was unable to run the Windows Update diagnostic. I might need to transfer you to an agent to help solve your problem." I've done all the obvious (sfc, DISM) and no problems were found. I'm thinking it must be a generic problem as it happens on both my Windows 11 machines.

Please try the offline installer.
First, install the checkpoint update which is a prerequisite for KB5050009: https://catalog.sf.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/d8b7f92b-bd35-4b4c-96e5-46ce984b31e0/public/windows11.0-kb5043080-x64_953449672073f8fb99badb4cc6d5d7849b9c83e8.msu
And then install KB5050009. https://catalog.sf.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com/filestreamingservice/files/66557ecc-650e-4c70-8baf-c624c4de912f/public/windows11.0-kb5050009-x64_97aac2ab4f607b11d50ad2fd88a5841ee0b18dd5.msu
Thanks but when I open the checkpoint file I get this message:
What documentation does it refer to and where do I find it?
Run "winver.exe" and note the OS build number.
If it says 26100.2894, you don't need the checkpoint update or the KB5050009 update. KB5050009 seems to be repeatedly offered to some users, though it's already installed.
Please try the offline installer.

Thanks. That seems to have done something in that the updates checker found two new updates very quickly, installing a Defender Antivirus one in a flash but the KB5050009 is stuck at 0% downloading.
Is that normal and can I leave it or should it be running much faster?
Please try the offline installer.

Hi Ramesh Srinivasan,
I have the same problem as LeeRelph, except that my error code is 0x800706be. When I run net start wuauserv, Windows update service starts normally, then the update KB5050009 starts to download, but then stops and I still get that error code:
Any suggestions or links for this one? Thank you!
Hi Isabellepar,
Many others are facing the same error (0x800706be). This requires detailed troubleshooting, including running a Process Monitor boot trace.

Please repair install Windows 11 via Settings.
