Since Windows 11 24H2 update everything runs slow and takes longer to load

Ever since this update, my system takes a long time before it's fully up to speed. I'm talking 10 minutes or more. Even the opening screen where I enter my PIN takes longer to come up. After entering the pin, it takes a while for the app icons to show on the desktop and even then the taskbar arrives later. I can't get Outlook or Chrome to launch right away. It can take minutes for them to load and be responsive.

Even after the system is functioning more normally, it is still slower than before the update. Emails take a few seconds longer to open up. Files take longer to open. Chrome tabs take longer to show.

I've checked Task Manager. My CPU is at less than 10% and my RAM at 59% with apps open. Hard disk doesn't show a lot of activity. I've looked at processes and don't see anything that's consuming a lot of resources. Nothing obvious is showing up. I've made sure to turn off a lot of apps at start up that were unnecessary.

I've also turned off sys.main. Before that, everything was even slower and more annoying than what I have already described. Two other annoying things I've discovered. Microsoft turned off Malwarebytes and turned on Defender anti-virus without my permission. It also turned on Edge. None of these things should have been activated without asking my permission. The update should keep every app the way it was either turned on or off.

24H2 has changed something in my computer that affects all activity and load times. It is not hardware related.

I have a fairly fast cpu, ram and SSD disk access speed. This is a gaming computer. It worked fast before the update. I've made a few adjustments to speed things up but those were not necessary before 24H2.

I do enjoy reading the replies...they will never just admit that their software is ****. Which is the reason for issues 90% of the time

    I had this issue and took a while to figure out that the problem was caused by the update to 24H2. After three days of research, I decided to roll back the version. Unfortunately, yesterday, I unintentionally updated this shi** **** again, and the problems came back.

    I tried several fixes, and the one that seems to have solved my issue was disabling Windows Defender. I used Defender Control 2.1 to do so, which set Defender to "managed by my organization" -probably an exploit to disable it completely. Now, my machine is almost back to how it was before, though I’m not 100% sure, as some things still feel a bit slow.

    Specs:

    • CPU: i7 14700KF
    • GPU: RTX 4070
    • RAM: 48GB DDR5 7200MT/s Corsair Dominator
    • Storage: 2TB NVMe SSD (Hiksemi) – 6.5K Read / 7K Write

    I liked the idea of disabling windows defender. Though, I just had to upload a company required VPN and defender turned itself off. I am going to check that it is off and say company manages. It takes 15-20 minutes to get access to my computer. Frustrating and I do not have time! Unfortunately, on my associate's computer, like on mine, the upgrade accidently got uploaded when I had to do a restart. Really, with this many complaints, where is MICROSOFT?

    Hi, yep I see your problem. I also have 24H2 and it is lousy! My settings are being constantly changed by Windows. I mean the default apps

    which I set right and the next day Windows changes the settings. I am contemplating to roll back to 23H2, which I deem to be much better.

    Windows is a lousy OS, it's no good, and getting worse and worse. Next thing I shall switch over to APPLE / MacIntosch.

    Worse goes to worst!!!
    Since the first, my fault, desired upgrade to 24H2 in December and its snail operation, i succeeded to roll back with Windows upgrade to 23H2.

    Everyday checking that 24H2 was NOT upgrading, and reading with attention this post answers.

    Though it was showing every day that 24H2 was ready to install, but i DIDNT CLICK on downloas and install.

    Unfortunately yesterday, I noticed that my PC asked for reboot and found that it was about to finalize 24H2 install after this reboot!!

    It did it by itself, or MS changed something that 24H2 upgrade DOES NOT NEED the user acceptance.

    Once upgraded, still the same problem, machine takes TWICE more time to be ready!!!

    IMPORTANT:

    • I asked to roll back to 23H2 and deinstall 24H2. It did it, but after the next reboot in 23H2, it then starts to download again 24H2 with NO prompt at all.
    • I restored an ACRONIS disk backup from two days before the upgrade, went fine, BUT ... after a couple of minutes, it then starts to download 24H2 with no prompt.

    - NEW:

    I also restored an ACRONIS Disk (C:) Backup one week earlier than the automatic move to 24H2, everything back to 23H2. BUT ... 10 min later, windows upgrade decided to load and install 24H2 without any promp to me?!? ****

    I just wonder if anyone else got this new tyrannic behavior of MS??

    I am pretty much upset, and then no other choice than staying with this snail-speed 24H2 ☠️😱💩

    Vraiment casse-couilles comme on dit chez nous...
