Since Windows 11 24H2 update everything runs slow and takes longer to load

Ever since this update, my system takes a long time before it's fully up to speed. I'm talking 10 minutes or more. Even the opening screen where I enter my PIN takes longer to come up. After entering the pin, it takes a while for the app icons to show on the desktop and even then the taskbar arrives later. I can't get Outlook or Chrome to launch right away. It can take minutes for them to load and be responsive.

Even after the system is functioning more normally, it is still slower than before the update. Emails take a few seconds longer to open up. Files take longer to open. Chrome tabs take longer to show.

I've checked Task Manager. My CPU is at less than 10% and my RAM at 59% with apps open. Hard disk doesn't show a lot of activity. I've looked at processes and don't see anything that's consuming a lot of resources. Nothing obvious is showing up. I've made sure to turn off a lot of apps at start up that were unnecessary.

I've also turned off sys.main. Before that, everything was even slower and more annoying than what I have already described. Two other annoying things I've discovered. Microsoft turned off Malwarebytes and turned on Defender anti-virus without my permission. It also turned on Edge. None of these things should have been activated without asking my permission. The update should keep every app the way it was either turned on or off.

24H2 has changed something in my computer that affects all activity and load times. It is not hardware related.

I have a fairly fast cpu, ram and SSD disk access speed. This is a gaming computer. It worked fast before the update. I've made a few adjustments to speed things up but those were not necessary before 24H2.

I do enjoy reading the replies...they will never just admit that their software is ****. Which is the reason for issues 90% of the time

In my case, my Windows is up-to-date, and all drivers have been updated as well, yet I am still experiencing issues. I suspect something might be running in the background because my computer and Windows run normally for a few minutes after startup or after running SFC /scannow from the command prompt. However, the issue soon reappears. I have tried all possible solutions without any success. :(

I'll agree with Alien Tribe. Wheter i made an upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2 or i did a clean install of 24H2 (3 days ago) performance was rubbish.
I'm using the same hardware and same programs i use on Windows 10 22H2 oder 11 23H2 but EVERY installer, eg steam, takes at least 5 minutes to even start.
On Win10 22H2 and 11 23H2 all works fine.
I have done all available updates, all needed drivers are installed and my bios is up to date, too.
So, as Alien Tribe wrote, the problem isn't on my side, my task manager shows the same, nearly no activity (CPU, SSD) while waiting a felt eternity for ANY installer.

Also all Linux Distros i tried (Nobara, Endeavour, Mint) work fine, too.
Named problems only occure on windows 11 24H2. So, for now, i'll leave my perfect working windows 10 running and will see what comes up next from MS.

I can confirm that removing Windows Defender drastically improved file browsing experience in Windows 11 24H2, so yes - Defender services are real performance killer. Obviously Microsoft antivirus software can be called the biggest malware/spyware/unwanted software which is not that easy to remove and since Microsoft is not owner of my computers, looks like this is the case for regulatory bodies of EU, especially in the light of the new trade wars ...

WOW! U need to do all that and back in the 90s you just turn on and all works well after updates. I cant believe Microsoft is literally forcing customers, especially the non computer savy ones to suffer through these issues. People that are tech savy can probably update drivers on their manufactuerers website, others will not know how to do so. I just cant believe Microsoft is literally making all our computers slow, unpleasant to use and unlike any other Windows I have ever used. SO MANY BACKGROUND PROCESSES. Microsoft I think has been hacked and doesnt want to tell the public and they scramble to make patches and bug fixes which actually make things worse as they have no clue whats going on themselves.

I literally will never buy a Microsoft windows product ever again if this is how updates are going to be. LETS GO APPLE IOS! never had issues with their computers operating systems and updates like this. So sad to see Microsoft not be able to deliver a proper update that actually enhances my computer rather than negatively affects it or infects it. Is Bill Gates creating computer and real life viruses like those conspiracy theorists say?
