I do enjoy reading the replies...they will never just admit that their software is ****. Which is the reason for issues 90% of the time
Since Windows 11 24H2 update everything runs slow and takes longer to load
Ever since this update, my system takes a long time before it's fully up to speed. I'm talking 10 minutes or more. Even the opening screen where I enter my PIN takes longer to come up. After entering the pin, it takes a while for the app icons to show on the desktop and even then the taskbar arrives later. I can't get Outlook or Chrome to launch right away. It can take minutes for them to load and be responsive.
Even after the system is functioning more normally, it is still slower than before the update. Emails take a few seconds longer to open up. Files take longer to open. Chrome tabs take longer to show.
I've checked Task Manager. My CPU is at less than 10% and my RAM at 59% with apps open. Hard disk doesn't show a lot of activity. I've looked at processes and don't see anything that's consuming a lot of resources. Nothing obvious is showing up. I've made sure to turn off a lot of apps at start up that were unnecessary.
I've also turned off sys.main. Before that, everything was even slower and more annoying than what I have already described. Two other annoying things I've discovered. Microsoft turned off Malwarebytes and turned on Defender anti-virus without my permission. It also turned on Edge. None of these things should have been activated without asking my permission. The update should keep every app the way it was either turned on or off.
24H2 has changed something in my computer that affects all activity and load times. It is not hardware related.
I have a fairly fast cpu, ram and SSD disk access speed. This is a gaming computer. It worked fast before the update. I've made a few adjustments to speed things up but those were not necessary before 24H2.

2025-02-01T15:24:01+00:00 The only thing I've been able to determine is, at least in my case, the 24H2 update somehow messed with / is uncooperative with some of the system's drivers. For one example, one of the most obvious for me is my Intel Wireless Bluetooth and Logitech M650 mouse - the mouse randomly disconnects, and I have to open Windows Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Devices for the system to pick the connection back up. Completely uninstalling & reinstalling the drivers for both has not helped the issue. I've also been testing with the and without the Logi driver software (as it's not required) and that doesn't make a difference either. It's as if something in the background is conflicting or "fighting" the drivers. Viewing the Processes and Performance in Task Manager doesn't reveal any clues though. There's nothing unusual in Startup either. I'm at a loss.

2025-02-01T17:50:47+00:00 As the one who started this thread, I'm amazed and shocked at the number of replies. The 24H2 update is a huge issue affecting a lot more people in more ways than I realized. I have discovered a hypothesis about what is going on. This doesn't necessarily explain everything all of you are experiencing but it does speak to how deep and pervasive the programming issue is here.
While elements of my computer operation have improved after recent updates to 24H2 which others have not experienced, I still have problems. The biggest one is that everything starts going very slow and I can't use the computer. When this happens, the disk is being 100% used yet I'm not doing anything that would call for a lot of disk usage.
The culprit turns out to be a System process. Guess what that system process is. It is none other than ntoskrnl.exe. That's NT the backbone of Windows going back to Win7 I believe. This means that the 24H2 update was not coded correctly to integrate with NT itself. There is clearly a conflict here and when it triggers, it causes things to happen. In my case, it's extreme disk usage. For someone else, it could manifest in a different way. This could literally cause a long list of different problems that can't be explained which all stem from the same cause... the very backbone code under Windows not being correctly aligned with the 24H2 update.
It's time for Microsoft to rebuild its core Windows code. 24H2 was the straw that broke the camels back. One too many updates without fixing fundamental issues in Windows core. That is my hypothesis.

2025-02-01T18:53:57+00:00 Wow, if that's right, what a shocker - I used to know Windows under the hood so to speak; didn't think they'd be using something harking back to NT...how long ago is that...20 years....a looong time ago. I'll have a look at the file you mentioned. Meantime I gave up the under the hood stuff with Windows 10. Life really is too short - expect better from Microsoft tho. 👎

2025-02-02T11:17:18+00:00 Hi,
I have done all steps you mentioned and the problem is still the same: Since I installed 24H2 update, everything lags when launching, even a simple task like File Explorer.
Thanks
