Critical System Issues Following Windows 11 24H2 Update: Boot Errors, System Freeze, and Bitlocker Access Denied

Two days back I received the Windows 11 24H2 Update on my system "HP Omen 16". Following the installation, I observed two identical entries for 'Windows 11 on volume 3' within the boot menu. No selection was made, and the system successfully logged into Windows after a 30-second delay.

The following workday, I consulted with our IT department regarding this behavior. Upon restarting the system in their presence, the dual boot entries reappeared. Attempts to select between the entries were unsuccessful. Proceeding to 'Change defaults or choose other options' and selecting the 'Repair' option resulted in a system freeze, characterized by an automatic reboot loop.

Subsequent attempts at system recovery using built-in tools encountered the following error:

"Your PC/Device needs to be repaired.

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

Error Code: 0xc0000225"

Furthermore, accessing the Recovery Environment by pressing F1 also resulted in a system freeze and reboot loop.

Efforts to utilize a bootable USB drive for recovery were hindered by a request for the Bitlocker Encryption key. It is suspected that the Bitlocker keys may have been invalidated or altered during the Windows 11 24H2 update process, as previously saved keys are no longer functional.

    Hello,

    Please try running an in-place upgrade. This will fix any corrupt system files, run updates, and upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11 (which would be 24H2).

    You can use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, the Windows 11 ISO, or the Media Creation Tool. All three of these options will get you to Windows 11, version 24H2.

    To use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, download the Windows 11 Installation Assistant and then run it. You should see some prompts telling you about Windows 11 and what it'll install. Let it download and install 24H2.

    To use the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool, download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool, and run the MCT. Once it finishes loading, push "Upgrade this PC Now". Let the MCT install the Windows 11 installation files, and then let it check for updates, and then let it install Windows 11.

    To use the Windows 11 ISO, download the Windows 11 ISO, (you can find it here, scroll down to where you see ISO for Windows 11 x64 devices), mount it, and then run setup.exe (if you see a UAC prompt, push yes). Follow the prompts on-screen and then let setup.exe update and install Windows 11, 24H2.

    All of these steps will get you to 24H2 and will take a while to install. It's best to do this at night when you're not doing anything important. Just make sure to save your files before you start.

    The problem I see is that you can upgrade to 24H2. After the upgrade if you enable Bitlocker, that is when the the inability to get in happens. Its only after a sysprep.

    My computer is locked to the bluescreen I have NOT activated the Bitlocker and it is still locking me out of my computer. It is impossible to any of the above suggestions when you can't download, access internet or anything with the blue screen. I have tried to unlock with the key found in my microsoft files but once it accepts it, it goes directly to 'automatically repairing" and then it flips back to the blue screen to start all over. My computer is just a year old and was working fine until this morning when I opened it up to work. This has files on it I CANNOT lose, and this update is scaring me by not letting me access them. What now? I have spent the entire afternoon trying to fix this mess. I have a Lenovo computer.

    Definitely NOT happy with microsoft right now!!!!!!

    Not exactly but similar. It is not a typical BSOD, the boot options vary from model to model. It does have an F1 option. A straight windows install does not exhibit the issue. The steps taken must be as follows.

    1. Install Windows
    2. Fully patch Windows
    3. Sysprep
    4. Create Drive Image (Tried 3 different imaging tools) Macron is my primary
    5. Deploy Image (Boots fine after imaging)
    6. Enable Bitlocker on local OS drive
    7. Unbootable at this [point

    It doesnt happen with prior versions of windows on any of the models I have tested them. The key factor to this issue is a fully patched 24H2/Sysprep and Bitlocker.
