2025-01 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5050009) will not download and install

Downloading takes lot of time (from to Zero to 10%) say about 4-5 min..after it reaches 10% download stage immediately jumps into Installation stage, here also taking 3-4 min but last repeatedly getting same error Install error - 0x800f081f

This is a common situation, as some updates may require specific firmware or BIOS versions to ensure compatibility or address potential issues with the system.

1. Open Windows Settings:
   • Press Windows + I to open the Settings menu.
2. Navigate to Windows Update:
   • Go to Update & Security (or just Windows Update if you're already in the newer version of settings).
   • Click on Windows Update in the left sidebar.
3. Go to Advanced Options:
   • Scroll down and click on Advanced options.
4. Access Optional Updates:
   • Under the Optional updates section, click on View optional updates.
   • This is where you'll typically find available firmware or driver updates. If a firmware update is listed here, you can select it and then click Download and Install.
5. Install the Firmware Update:
   • If there is a firmware update available, install it first. Once it’s done, restart your PC.
6. Check for the Cumulative Update:
   • After the firmware update is installed and the PC restarts, you should be able to go back to Windows Update and check for the Cumulative Update (KB5050009) again.

Same here. My PC is only 8 weeks old.

This update has failed to download and install for the past three days according to my Update history and the current version isn't downloading at all, it's been trying for two hours now and is stuck at 0%.

Similar/same issue. Update seems to download, but fails to install at some point during installation. The highest progress % that I've seen is 53%. That's install not download.

I've tried solutions mentioned here: https://www.techaipost.com/windows-11-update-failed-to-install/ all, except for the DNS. Update still fails.

In my case the issues started with an update in mid December. After this the issues started. I've updated drivers, etc, but the computer is super laggy when waking to the lock screen. Sometimes, when starting a new email with Outlook Classic, an extra window is opened with "Word" written in title bar. The computer got the BSOD on every restart/shutdown, the dock did not work properly (it's a Lenovo ThinkPad). I tried to uninstall that update which made it a little better - no BSOD anymore, but it's still lagging and the update won't install.
