Today Jan 19, 2025. when I want to check for updates ( with automatic updates button ON position), updates are not installing. It says as under:
There were some problems in installing updates, but we will try again. If you keep this and want to search web or contact support for information this may help: 0x800705b4
Grateful, if some one can help me to resolve this so that I can installed the updates

Since no programs can be launched as admin, running troubleshooting tools like ProcMon is impossible.
Maybe you can consider resetting Windows 11 via Windows RE

I did that already but the process didn't help with the problem. I suspect the only way to get whatever bug is in the system is to have a clean reset of Windows 11. That will require more work but If I have to run this process, then I will set aside the time to get it done. Thanks for your help with this issue.

I have the same problem. My version of windows 11 is 24H2 build 26100.2894. Please help with solving this issue.
I had this same error message after Windows update tried to find updates for about 20 minutes. I was able to fix by the following; may not work for everyone but it does not change anything that can't easily be reversed.
Sometimes the folders/ files for Windows Update get messed up; this gives them a refresh.
Note: Alternatively in step 2 you can disable the BITS and Windows Update services then reboot your PC if you can't delete the Software Distribution file. You'll have to go back in and set both services back to "Automatic Delayed start" afterwards and manually start them.

- launch system services and stop BITS and Windows Update services.
- In File Explorer navigate to C:\Windows and delete the Software Distribution file (can be restored form the recycle bin later if you need to)
- In Services restart BITS and Windows Update services.
- Go into settings and rerun Windows Update. (the Software Distribution folder and files will be recreated with fresh files).
- You should see Updates installing now.

This worked for me. The Software Distribution folder said it was locked after Step 1. Apple popped up and said it had an Itunes update, installed that and restarted, ran Update and everything then worked. Thank you.
