Why is Task Host stopping my PC from shutting down?

thanks i'm going to print this off and try it tomorrow.

I've seen quite a few people have this just glancing down the thread briefly.

I have checked updates and there is one from February which it says it's been unable to complete - First failing to instal on a 16th feb then on every attempt since

I Have looked up what the problematic update is called;

It says its a cumulative update for Windows 11 version 24H2 ETC with a reference number

KB 5057987 (unless it is a 1 not a 7 after the 5 looking back at my writing)

It also says "download error 0 x 8007,0005"

Any thoughts whether this is likely to be connected?

I get to windows update screen and hit run and nothing happens

There have been reported problems with the Windows 11 24H2 version that many of us had installed on 12 Dec 2024, and lots of people also reporting that the 12 Feb 2025 update won't install or if it did, it was buggy. Now there are news reports from a couple of days ago saying the March updates crashed computers, and Windows Latest reported early this morning that Microsoft has acknowledged that the March 2025 update is removing Copilot from PCs when it's not supposed to. I'm unaware of anything official about this but I suspect the March 2025 update is being held back by MS until these issues are resolved, which may be why a lot of us can't download the update even when we try to do it manually.

Since my own problem with Task Host preventing shutdown began with the Feb 2025 update, I had hoped the March update would fix it, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Twice now, I've chosen "shut down anyway" and waited until it had shut down, put my laptop away, opened it back up the next day, and found the laptop had come back on at some point during the night, which I'm certain is because Task Host interfered with shutdown.

I have this issue but when i shut down anyway none of my files that are on autosave have saved

having same issue
