Whenever I shut PC down it says I have one app open and need to shut it down first. There is no apps open. The message also mentions the Task Host stopping the shut down.

This started a couple of days ago. The Task Host is stopping my computer from shutting down.

I went Through the steps and the checking updates continues to spin, with no results. It has been in that mode for 10 minutes. Should I just wait?

I'm having the same issue as everyone else. Mine started a week ago, after I installed Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Version 1.423.174.0) on 1st March and (Version 1.423.188.0) on 2nd March.
I'm unable to install any further updates and I'm unable to uninstall the ones from last week. The system just hangs in definitely. I've followed all the advice on this thread with no luck.
I'm having the same problem with the Task Host preventing shut down. I also cannot run Windows Update successfully, and when i try to run the Troubleshooter, I get "The Windows Update diagnostic has failed to run." On top of that, when I try to chat, I'm unable to log in with the Windows account I created when I set up this laptop a few months ago. Something has gone very wrong.
