Why is Task Host stopping my PC from shutting down?

Whenever I shut PC down it says I have one app open and need to shut it down first. There is no apps open. The message also mentions the Task Host stopping the shut down.

Windows updates or software downloads happening in the background could be holding the shutdown process.

    Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:.

    Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter:

    > Go to Settings (Win + I). > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.

    > Find Windows Update and click "Run" next to it.

    > This will open the Get Help app.

    > Scroll down and look for "Troubleshoot problems with Windows updates"

    > Click it and select "I can't download, install, or uninstall an update" and click "Yes".

    This will automatically identify and address any errors and restart the update process. This step is purely automatic. Please continue to follow the prompt if the issue persists.

    Install all update available: Go to Settings > Windows Update and make sure your system is fully updated.

    Check if issue persists.

    Stil seeing the task host message. I can click shut down anyway but I'd just as soon fix the issue.

    It just started a few days ago.

    Tried your fix but just got stuck on checking for updates. History shows history of successful installations, last on 14/2/2025. This problem started very recently - a few days or a week at most. Bit of a relief to see others with the same issue. Any other methods to stop this?
