KB5050094 Causes RDP Disconnects

Since computers installed update KB5050094 we are seeing RDP connections being disconnected randomly...sometimes after a few seconds or after a few minutes. We have confirmed that it was this update which caused it by removing the update and then testing, and RDP stayed active as it did previously without any disconnects. We then reinstalled the update and the RDP disconnects started again.

We have also tested this from Macs using the Windows App, and the same users who were disconnected on their Windows systems, where not getting disconnected from the Mac (so not the server end disconnecting).

Looking online, other users are reporting the same issue so this is not specific to our network, clients or servers.

As a note these are Windows 10 and 11 systems.

Hello everyone, I’ve found a solution that’s related to UDP in the Remote Desktop client. If you go to GPEDIT \ Administrative Templates \ Windows Components \ Remote Desktop Services \ Remote Desktop Connection Client and change the value of the rule "Turn off UDP on client" to Enabled, the disconnections should be resolved.

I hope this helps, and sorry if it’s not written perfectly—my English isn’t the best. Cheers!

Same as gpedit solution, you can also add a value to registry. Useful for Home users:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\Client]
    "fClientDisableUDP"=dword:00000001

You can use powershell to find out what updates can be uninstalled. ;)

    wmic qfe list brief /format:table

Today (13/02/2025), you can remove the 5051987 and after you can remove the 5050094:

    wusa /uninstall /kb:5051987

    restart

    wusa /uninstall /kb:5050094

    restart

    suspend udates!!!

About this error: strange... Because, on some computers this error occurred after updated with KB5050094. On the rest of the computers it only occurred after updated with KB5051987. However, all two updates must be removed to make it work again...

We are seeing similar issues across many of users.

Our users using RemoteApp that have KB5050094 installed are constantly getting disconnected, reconnecting... messages.

Usually as often as every minute.

    Uninstalling KB5050094 corrects this problem.

We are experiencing the same issue. Some of our client computers with this update get disconnected from Remote Apps after about 5 minutes.

Uninstalling KB5050094 resolves the issue, but if the update is reinstalled, the problem reappears.

Not all PCs with this update are necessarily affected.

The following cross-tests were conducted, confirming that the KB is indeed the cause:

    • Testing with different users on a faulty PC = KO
    • Testing an affected user on another functional PC = OK
    • Testing from a faulty PC on different servers in the farm = KO
