Hi all,

Getting Error on around 40 devices for Windows Updates: Installing Feb 2025 Security Update Win 10 64 bit (KB5051974)

We have 1000 devices total and it only seems to be occurring on around 40 of them, but its the same problem on each.

Windows Update forces restart and then after booting back up it says cannot complete update, reverting changes.

Have tried SFC Scannow / DISM Repairs but same issue repeatedly occurs. Also tried manually completing the updates by downloading from the catalog but same error occurs there.

Error Code Showing in Windows Update is : 0x800f0922

Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Haydar,

    Thanks. The Farbar logs from one of the systems that's not affected by this issue can help for comparison.

    Also, does BCDEDIT work in Safe mode?

    Thanks - I've attached the logs from 2 devices here. Hopefully it will give some answers.

    Not too sure what the pattern is with the affected devices and which driver it could be affecting them.

    Hi Haydar,

    The BCD is inaccessible. Unless the EFI partition is fixed, the updates or in-place upgrades will not work. We can try to create a new EFI partition and install the updates before rebooting Windows, but it's too much work since 40 systems are affected by the same issue. I think it's tough to narrow down the issue. It must be a low-level driver.

    If possible, share the following logs from two affected systems:

    1. msinfo32 NFO log
    2. The System event logs (.evtx)
    3. Farbar scanner logs.

    Note: If Microsoft Edge or Chrome mislabels the Farbar Scanner executable as PUA/malware, choose to keep it by tapping … in the bottom bar, choosing Keep, and then choosing Keep anyway in the dialog that appears.

    If the OS language is non-English, rename FRST64.exe to FRST64English.exe.

    Run the program. Don't check or uncheck any options. Click "Scan".

    Add the two logs, FRST.txt and Addition.txt, to a Zip archive, upload them to your OneDrive and share the link here.

    Booted back into Windows and got to admin CMD, but same error as before:

    Should we try and install the update, or check for anything else?

    Please restart the system, boot into Windows.

    Run BCDEDIT

    Does it work correctly?
