If you can’t edit TXT and BAT files after KB5050593 or KB5050188, try these:

Reset File Associations:

1: Go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps.

2: Scroll down and click Reset to Microsoft recommended defaults.

3: Now, manually set:

TXT files > Notepad

BAT files > Notepad or CMD

4: Try editing a text or batch file again.

Thank you I tried manually installing but it didn't work. I'll try again and let you know. And I'll try to Reset File Associations. :)

.txt has notpad but .bat is blank and won't let me choose anything.

I cant edit again so uninstalling. Note notepad ++ works but my regular edit is gone.

I can't get it back so I'll have to do a system restore again.

So I don't know how to fix this not update windows

Once try In-Place upgrade repair which can re-install windows without losing files.It will fix issues.
