Windows 11 Install Fails, But In An Odd Way

Hello! I've been attempting to upgrade (my unsupported (CPU is 1 gen too old)) computer to Windows 11. So I mount the ISO, go through the setup as usual. It says it's installing, I leave it (with sleep off). Then, when I return and restart the computer it brings me to the boot selection screen showing 'Windows 10' and 2 (yes, I tried twice) 'Windows 11 (Mounted On Volume 11)'. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 5675 (1600X, RX570), I have added an extra 1 TB SSD to the original 128GB SSD/1TB HDD. Both of the old drives are in there, the 128GB is the old system drive and still has everything on it. The 1TB is used for data storage.

I can't seem to find anything online about this.

Do these disks have anything to do with the problem? And how can I fix it? Thanks in advance!

Hello, and I apologize for the late reply.

Although the installer throws an error now, it's the exact same error that SetupDiag kept finding as well.

Error 0xC1900101-0x20017 is again, a generic error that caused a rollback, but again, it's usually caused by a driver.

This might sound really outrageous, but it actually might be better for you to clean install Windows 11 onto your disk.

If your disk capacity is high enough, you can set aside a 64 GB partition for Windows and see how well it works for you, and if it works well, you can just replace the entire disk with Windows 11.

However, Windows 10 doesn't go out of support until October 14th of this year, so you still have a little bit more time before it goes out of support to contemplate to clean install or not to clean install.

You can also try the methods questions_ suggested and see if they can deduce anything from your errors.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello,

Here's 1, 2 & 3 require an account for that forum, so I'd rather not do them. Thanks.
