Need help upgrading to Windows 11 pro 24H2 form 23H2 0xc1900101 error

I have been trying to upgrade my PC Windows 11 Pro from 23H2 (build 22631.5262) to 24H2 for several months. The upgrade downloads but always fails with the 0xc1900101 error.

My pc meets all of the hardware requirements as per the Microsoft PC Health Check App. My system uses a Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. H470M DS3H -CF mother board, 2.90 gigahertz Intel Core i5-10400- 64 bit, 1.09 TB HDD, drive 0 15.85 Gigabytes Usable Memory, c: (NTFS on drive 0) , 1.09 TB 855.87 GB free. UEFI: American Megatrends Inc. F4 08/28/2020. All of the security update have been installed. All of the drivers have been updated. Memory integrity is on and there are no drivers listed in the vulnerable driver blocklist.

I disconnect the pc from the Internet/Router before running the update. Disconnected the old scanner and deleted the drivers and programs. Removed the Logitec 300 camera and deleted all of the drivers. Run the update troubleshooter. Run FSC and DISM. Reset Windows update components, all several times.

I have looked at C:$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther and opened setupact.log or setuperr.log to see where the update fails, but do not understand what I am looking for the failure.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Lewis,

    You're most welcome. Regarding the erroneous boot entries, we can remove them using BCDEDIT.. Please post the output of BCDEDIT /ENUM ALL.

    Ramesh,

    I cannot thank you enough for all your work helping me. I truly appreciate your kindness and patience. I will try the setpoint uninstall and give it a go. If that fails, I'll just stay with 23H2 and consider a clean install later.

    I had much difficulty when trying to switch from ACHI to RST when originally installing Windows on this system. Don't want to go through that again if I don't have to.

    Again, I appreciate all you have done for me.

    Hi Lewis,

    The BIOS and chipset drivers are the latest versions. Not sure about Logitech Setpoint and the etdsmbus.sys drivers. Setpoint drivers may be outdated. You may try uninstalling Setpoint. Once done, you may try a repair installation again after unplugging all devices.

    If nothing helps, here are some options:

    • Switching the SATA mode from AHCI to Intel RST (after installing the IRST drivers) is one option, but that can be risky on some systems. A complete OS image backup must be made beforehand. 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 errors are usually caused by old BIOS or storage controller drivers. By the way, my system runs an older version of the SATA controller driver, but the 24H2 installation was fine.
    • Remain on 23H2, as it will be fully supported till October 2025.
    • Clean install Windows 11 24H2 using the USB setup disk.
