Win10, Right click on pinned programs in Start Menu no longer have file list

I'm continuing to investigate. Now on the two computers where the jumplists aren't failing.

When you hit update, the following will begin downloading and installing:

KB5057589 Windows Recovery Environment

KB5055683 Cumulative Framework

KB5055518 Cumulative Windows

When the first two, which are smaller, finish installing, if you hit restart, the jumplists are still active,

so I can confirm that KB5055518 is the one with the error.

I installed all the updates according to "Check for updates." I waited a day and checked again and there were no new updates. All the updates latest updates were reinstalled. I then removed just KB5055518. The jumplist does NOT come back for me. It must be machine dependent then :/

I manage 8 Windows 10 Pro computers:
On 2 of them, the jumplists haven't disappeared with all the updates installed.

On 6 of them, the jumplists disappeared. I restored the backup and blocked all automatic updates in gpedit.msc.

On 1 of these 6 restored computers, I hid KB5055518, and the rest of the updates were installed, preserving the jumplists.
On another of these 6 restored computers, I hid KB5055518, and the rest of the updates were installed, but again, the jumplists were lost.

It doesn't make any sense. It seems like the problem is with KB5055518, but other times it doesn't.

I'll add a curious note. I have a habit, on the second Tuesday of every month, of manually clicking the "Check for Updates" button on the computers I use every day. If they're computers that are usually turned off, I click the button when I turn them on to do other things. On all of these computers, the jumplists have failed when I click the button.

However, on three other computers that are usually turned off and I never clicked the "Check for Updates" button, but instead updated themselves automatically, the jumplists haven't failed.

I'll try to run a test on one of the computers where I restored the backup and blocked updates with gpedit.msc. I'll remove the update block and NOT click the "Check for Updates" button, but rather let it do its thing, reviewing the update history to see what happens. I imagine it can update the same day or the next day, always after a system restart. You can see the time of the last check in Windows Update, so it's probably the next day because I think it only checks once a day.

Well, good news!
On one of the computers that had the jumplist issue, I just restored a backup from January 2025. After finishing, I DON'T click "Check for Updates" and let Windows automatically search for and install pending updates. Normally, it only checks for updates once a day when the computer first boots up. I repeat: DO NOT click "Check for Updates" either before or after. Let Windows do everything automatically.

I then restored the January 2025 backup again, clicked the "Check for Updates" button, and it didn't fail. This proves it's not the button, but a March update.
