I have Windows Updates paused. I've also stopped them using group policies. Defender continues to update automatically. Check the dates. This doesn't reproduce the jumplist issue.

I am having the same issue but I narrowed it down to Windows Update installing any update that came out after March's Patch Tuesday. This includes Windows Defender anti-virus updates installed using Windows Update.

If I disable Windows Update using the group policies editor (I have Windows 10 Professional) and install updates manually including Windows Defender anti-virus updates I do not have the problem and my start menu jump lists continue to work.

• It's curious about the April 7, 2025 date when the updates were released on April 8.
• If the updates are manually installed without being connected to the internet (KB5055683 and KB5055518 are in the catalog, KB5057589 can be downloaded while installing with Windows Update and then tried again), the error doesn't occur.
• Sometimes, even without Windows Update finishing downloading the updates and without having any installed, just restarting during the download causes the error.

Conclusion: The three updates released on April 8 don't have any issues. It must be that Windows Update itself was updated internally on April 7, and there's a bug. These internal updates don't appear in the update history.

I didn't notice the issue on my computer until April 8 when it installed all three of the updates mentioned in your post.
