Unusual Files in C Drive After FAILED Windows Update Attempts!

Will do the above in the next hour or three in case what is below has some impact. Would think not, but who knows?

Just turned the PC on and this popped up straight away.

Also, is it fine to remove Panther and Admin folders?

Thanks for the logs. The last setup was successful; however, according to the logs, dynamic updates weren't applied due to a network connectivity issue, so it ended up with an older OS build.

1. Reset the Windows Update cache using this batch file to see if that fixes the issue:

Download the zip file and extract the batch file to the desktop.

Right-click on the batch file, click Properties, click "Unblock" (if present), and OK.

Double-click the batch file to run it.

After it completes execution, don't close it yet.

Right-click on that Command Prompt window, click "Edit" and click "Select all"

Right-click on that Command Prompt window, click "Edit" and click "Copy"

(This copies the output to the clipboard.)

Paste the info (Ctrl + V) into your reply window.

2. Run these commands from admin Command Prompt: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

(Post the output.)

After the commands are executed, share the latest CBS log (C:\Windows\logs\CBS.log). No need for the other logs in that folder.

Got the logs. Yes, you can remove them.

1. Please share "C:\Windows\Panther" as well.

2. Export the "Administrative Events" log from the Windows Event Viewer. To do so, open Event Viewer, navigate to Custom Views, and then select Administrative Events. Right-click on the "Administrative Events" entry and choose "Save All Events As..." to save the log as a .evtx file.

It's two different requests. The "windows\panther" is where the logs for successful upgrades are stored. I wonder if the dynamic updates weren't applied during the repair installation. Saying this because your build is very old (having the December 2023 build).

I may require the Farbar scan logs in addition to the "Windows\Panther" logs.

2023 I believe was when this PC was first used so it's close to 2 years now - from new. 

Stored away for a few years prior to 2023.

I would have done all the updates on first connecting it to the internet and then let it update automatically after that.

For years each PC has worked without having to fix or mess with anything to do with Microsoft or anything else really except the time I didn't want to update from Windows 7 to Windows 10 so was looking into stopping that and also one update that removed my Display image - not just me!

Until now, however, nothing quite like this at all.

From midway through last year after each update this current PC would play up bit by bit until it was beyond a joke.

The reset resolved nothing, unfortunately.

Not sure where it all went wrong or why - have used AVG, Avast and Kaspersky for years only not all at the same time and also have CC Cleaner.

I keep it quite clean really and low key for the most part like for movies, tv shows and the news about 98% of the time - other times are when my phone can't do what I want or if I want to venture out a little.

Mostly though - Netflix and YT.

I somehow think it is the Realtek Audio driver that might be a contributing factor as have read this happening to others going back years and was only resolved when they were able to download the driver (not available anymore) from their PC maker or the manufacturer direct.

There was a thread on here that did have the link, but that link leads to Intel now and Intel only does it for Nuc.

Anyhow, will look at doing the rest of what you are asking for when I can, also, when I am not so frustrated with it.
