Windows 11 New Media Player

Hello!

I used Groove Music.

Today, I received the new Media Player which replaced Groove Music.

It correctly found my music and videos as I have included them in the Libraries.

Unfortunately, it is buggy.

For instance, when I click on Artists, it says that it could not find any content.

Also, it stucks when I click on an artist or album

Do you have similar issues?

Should I just wait a little bit, maybe they are going to provide updates and fixes?

I have tried resetting the app 2 times, but still the same problems.

EDIT [19.5.2022]: There was some improvements in my experience with Media Player.

Some day ago, the Media Player started anew. FIrst, it scanned again from scratch my Music library.

For 5-10 minutes, it used a lot of CPU and RAM. Then when it was done, I could see the Artists and it did not say that it couldnt find any music.

But still it is not completely stable. Very often, when I click on an Album or Artist, it freezes or crashes.

So, still I am anxiously waiting if it will get stable in the future.

But for now, I am happy that I can listen to music again.

DId this update also happen to you?

EDIT [11.9.2022]: Overall, my experience with Media Player has improved a lot.

Now, I can play all my music.

There are now 3 issues remaining as I can see them at least:

  1. Often, when I click to play an album, it freezes. I have to close and restart the app, and then I can play the same album. The same album appears when I click on the Home link.
  2. I also noticed this error: The run times of albums and others, are wrong! They do not show the actual value as I inspected them.
  3. Unfortunately, and this has not been addresses to me so far, I do not have Artists art. Wherever there is an artist, it just shows nothing. In Groove Music, I used to have those and they were beautiful.

    I can confirm this. Uninstalled and then reinstalled through the Microsoft Store. It finally shows a list of artists, shows the album, lets you edit info, etc., and at least so far hasn't crashed. Progress!

    It's about time.

    Ooops. Spoke too soon. It worked for about half an hour then reverted to crashing at everything. Now that aught to tell you something, and if Microsoft is monitoring these discussions (they should be), then they should take note. This seems to be some kind of database corruption issue. It installs and everything works. Then dies. Why this wasn't fixed months ago is the issue. Adobe runs into stuff like this once in a while, but it's usually fixed in about a month with the next update.

    When mine was crashing it stayed on screen, and I could sometimes play a track by clicking on an entry in the songs view, but it wasn’t displaying what the track actually was, so it was totally random which track olayed

    I did find, though, that if I closed media player and then queried the music database media player uses by using a SQLite query tool, it showed all my music was there, listed correctly by artist, album, genre, etc..

    Might be corruption that I couldn’t see, but it always fell over when the music database reached about 12Mb in size.

    Mines now pretty reliable, but it still occasionally uses 20-30% of my cpu when it loads. Rescanning my music content I assume to see if there’s anything new in there. It shouldn’t take that high a cpu usage to do that. The old media player, and media monkey don’t.

    I did log a fault with MS about this, and got an auto acknowledgment, but never saw any other response to it.

    In the end I bit the bullet and went back to Windows 10. Bit of a pain having to reinstall everything again but the 6 month trip to Windows 11 was just a loss of too many features I know and use regularly. As you'd guess Groove works flawlessly. :)

    I haven't gone that far!

    Mind you, I installed W11 as soon as it was generally available.

    My old (self built) PC running W10 was not officially supported. No TPM, old-ish CPU.
    So it was a good excuse to gut it and rebuild.

    New AMD Ryzen 5600G CPU, motherboard, 16Gb RAM, NVME SSD for boot drive. No GPU because the Ryzen has it built in. I don't do games, so not a problem.

    But in the 6 months or more I have had it, I have had to reinstall from scratch twice!.

    Once because it just stopped booting, and I couldn't figure how to fix, so a reinstall was called for.

    The second time was because i was 'tidying' up my drives, and accidentally deleted the boot partition off the NVME disk. Doh!

    Since then I've had one more case of the boot config going awol. No BCD found, ntloader missing, etc.

    Don't kniw if thats my NVME disk being a bit weird, or what.

    I know how to fix that now, so that's a relief.

    Otherwise I've got used to W11.

    I don't like the restrictionms on the taskbar (mostly not being able to drop a file onto an app thats running, or create shortcuts). WHY they took that away, who knows. Trying to make it simpl,e for the majority, probably.

    Other than that its OK. Not stunning, but it does what I need.
